What are some recommended actions or Sunnah during Muharram? 👏 1️⃣ Fast: Fast on the day of Ashura it expiates the minor sins of the past year. The Messenger of Allah (saw) said, ‘The best fasting after Ramadan is the Sacred Month of Allah (Muharram)…’ 2️⃣ Read the Qur’an: Reading the Qur’an or performing Dhikr can help you feel the blessings of Muharram. 3️⃣ Give regular Sadaqah: Muharram marks the beginning of the Islamic New Year, so it's the perfect time to make resolutions and establish good habits like regular charity giving to gain blessings all year round. 4️⃣ Give Zakat - Although there is no specific recommendation to pay your Zakat in Muharram, during the times of the Prophet (saw), Zakat was collected from the Ummah on the 1st of Muharram.

👏 Yesterday was the first day of Muharram and the Sahaba (ra) would recite the following du’a for when the new month or new year would begin: اللّهم أَدْخِلْهُ عَلينا بِالأمْنِ وَالإيمان، وَالسَّلامَةِ وَالإسْلام، وِجوارٍ مِّنَ الشَّيْطان، وَرِضْوَانٍ مِّنَ الرَّحْمن Allahumma adkhilhu ‘alayna bil amni wal iman, was salamati wal islam, wa jiwarim minash shaytan, wa ridwanim minar Rahman. “O Allah, bring this [month or year] upon us with security, iman, safety, Islam, protection from shaytan, and your pleasure.” [Hadith: 6237] This dua is a general prayer for the arrival of the new year which we want to be filled with success, spiritual growth, and following the teachings of Islam. 💙

As Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar, approaches, you might be preparing to pay Zakat. 🙌 Zakat, the third pillar of Islam, asks Muslims to give a portion of their wealth to certain underprivileged groups. It's not a tax or charity, but a compulsory act of worship commanded by Allah (swt).
