“Do you have 30 years of experience… or 1 year of experience, 30 times?” 🫳🎤 -- Ian Ziskin on JP Elliott’s Future of HR Podcast a few weeks ago. This quote speaks to one reason that “years of experience” is not always a great indicator of ability. You probably know someone who has worked at the same company (seemingly) forever, who loves the status quo, and relishes having institutional or industry knowledge — but may lack the curiosity, boldness, or creativity needed to really drive change that matters and do something different every year. Let’s be sure we’re the 30 *different* years of experience people, who • drive things forward • try • fail • laugh as we learn, assuming our mistakes haven’t set the company on fire • prioritize development of ourselves and our teams • challenge, respectfully • have some passion • actively seek out people and resources to make us smarter • find (other) SMEs or leaders exciting, not intimidating • explore beyond our comfort zone • document • want to be collectively competitive • ask questions • take a moment to celebrate the wins • encourage diversity of thought (and of everything else) What would you add? 🤔

Wow! What an amazing conversation with Dave Ulrich! It's truly a privilege to speak with the "Father of Modern HR." I can imagine how insightful and fun it must have been to flip the script and have all the questions come from listeners of the podcast. Dave's mastery in storytelling and his ability to drive home his points through impactful stories is truly remarkable. I'm particularly intrigued by the topics you discussed. It's fascinating to hear that HR is not just about HR itself, but about so much more. Starting your talent strategy with one simple question sounds like a game-changer.
