As a co-owner of WeAreBrain, I've encountered a variety of challenges. With our company comprising 12 nationalities spread across five countries, each with diverse backgrounds, managing cultural disparities and adhering to local regulations and practices has been a prominent one. Often we discuss with others this question on how to drive a single business culture in various countries and or locations that have their own culture. I'm curious about how you navigate these complexities and what strategies you employ. I've outlined some of the approaches we've found effective in planning and preparing for this challenge: In-Depth Knowledge of Local Cultures: Develop a strong understanding of local cultures: Before expanding into a new jurisdiction, it is important to invest time in understanding the local culture, values, and norms. This includes understanding communication styles, business practices, and social customs. This will help in building relationships and establishing credibility with local stakeholders. And remember: Understand theirs, before you expect them to understand yours. Build a diverse and inclusive team: A diverse and inclusive team can help bridge cultural differences and facilitate collaboration across jurisdictions. This means hiring team members with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. It also means creating a culture of inclusion that values and respects different viewpoints. Foster open communication: Maybe even the most important one. Encourage open and transparent communication across all jurisdictions. This means creating opportunities for team members to share their thoughts, opinions, and feedback on the company's culture and values. It also means creating channels for communication that take into account cultural differences, such as using language or local communication platforms. Transparency: In our company, everyone knows everything unless it’s marked client confidential. Everything is accessible and open to the team regardless of position. Stay up to date with local regulations: It is essential to stay up to date with local regulations and practices. This means investing time in understanding local laws and regulations, as well as building relationships with local authorities and industry associations. This will help in avoiding compliance issues and building trust with local stakeholders. Develop a flexible and adaptable approach: Growing in multiple jurisdictions requires a flexible and adaptable approach. This means being open to new ideas and approaches and being willing to adjust plans as needed to accommodate local customs and regulations. Ie. different legal entities, selling through partners, different payrolling systems, etc. Please note that this list is by no means exhaustive, and we continually refine and adapt. Listening to absorb. Listening to respond. Selective listening. And then we've listening where we turn a deaf ear. Wonder whether we often know what's said but want to stay in a state of denial, hopelessly hopeful waiting for a stroke of luck? On a side note, when I'm on a conversation where I know the other one doesn't want to listen at all or isn't receptive to any idea, I often skip the pain of hammering my point and simply keep saying "I agree". 𝗔𝗻 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗶𝘀: - someone who trades their skills for a lot of equity (e.g, executive, board member, specialist) -someone who can build a brand and business around the knowledge or framework they have expertise in. Experts can trade for larger ownership stakes and build businesses around their lifestyle. They can accelerate their time to financial freedom. If you understand what it takes to become an expert in your discipline, you will create opportunities and get to freedom sooner than you think. Develop expertise to spend your time where you want, how you want, and make an impact. To become an expert, you need to understand three hard truths. #��: 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝘆 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 I have seen many tech employees doing decent work, and they could develop it into expertise. However, they don't seek or ask for constructive criticism. Without feedback and growth, they stagnate and don't move forward. People seeking feedback and honing skills add what is needed and eliminate what isn't. They get on the fast track to expertise. #𝟮: 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀 A skill becomes expertise through application and positive results. Someone who worked for me years ago came on to work for our project in our department. This gave them great satisfaction at first, but they soon realized that to meet their career goals, they needed to deliver customer results. She worked hard to transition her career and skill set to a customer-facing role. This has accelerated her career trajectory, and she is seen as an expert in her new role, doing speaking engagements. #𝟯: 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁 If you don't manage the business case of why you are an expert in your field, you won't become one.
