🚀 Exciting news from the Millennium Challenge Corporation! Today, the MCC Board of Directors approved significant investments in Belize and Sierra Leone, aiming to spark economic growth, reduce poverty, and promote democracy. 🔹🇧🇿 Belize Compact: With a $125 million investment, the focus will be on enhancing education and lowering high electricity costs. The Education Project emphasizes inclusion and equity, creating opportunities for traditionally excluded groups and addressing gender gaps in education and workforce preparation. 🔹🇸🇱 Sierra Leone Compact: Because 70% of Sierra Leone's population lacks access to electricity, MCC's $480 million investment will help provide affordable energy to 4.6 million people. MCC's Board approved this investment in recognition of progress made to implement the Agreement for National Unity, including the delivery of the draft Electoral Review Committee report, which is expected to be finalized and published in the coming days. These actions taken to date represent a critical advancement of efforts to strengthen Sierra Leone’s democratic and electoral institutions following the June 2023 elections. These investments are designed to directly benefit those in need, driving sustainable economic growth and fostering resilient democratic institutions. #MCC20 #InvestmentOpportunity #sustainabledevelopment ➡️ Learn more: https://lnkd.in/e-fUqZSm

🇲🇼⚡️Strengthening the Power Sector by Empowering Women. Strengthening Malawi’s power sector goes hand in hand with empowering women to take leading roles. ESCOM, the country’s electric utility, created a Gender and Social Inclusion unit to mainstream women’s participation in the energy sector. The unit is training employees and developing opportunities for the next generation of female engineers. “Research has shown that organizations with women in decision-making roles perform much better than those without. We believe ESCOM can greatly benefit from women’s perspectives,” said Elube Chienda, Gender and Social Inclusion Manager at ESCOM. ESCOM partnered with the University of Malawi and the Malawi University of Science and Technology to launch scholarship and internship programs for high-performing female engineering students. The utility also initiated a career talks program in three secondary schools in Blantyre to spark girls’ interest in engineering. 🎓🏫 #EmpowerWomen #GenderInclusion #Engineering #Malawi #FutureLeaders #MCC20
