Are you struggling to instill common purpose in your team? At McChrystal Group, we’ve seen this divide intensify when business units work on competing, siloed efforts rather than toward the collective goals of the organization. In fact, only 52% of employees surveyed in our database say when their team is executing multiple projects, leadership articulates which one should take priority to support organizational objectives. Daniel Kenny, Ph.D. outlines the seven essential principles to inspire and align teams here: https://lnkd.in/ek8CZsnc

The power of partnership can’t be argued. McChrystal Group partnered with Pfizer to design and execute the 2024 EDGE Leadership Development Program. Now in its third year, this experience was revamped to build leaders confident in leveraging Artificial Intelligence in their work and their leadership. Far from a traditional leadership training program, EDGE served as a transformative leadership journey for Pfizer’s top talent, fostering a growth mindset, encouraging innovation, and cultivating a culture of continuous learning. The responses from our cohort on LinkedIn after graduation are a humbling reminder of the powerful work we do here at McChrystal Group. We pour every ounce of ourselves into developing leaders and optimizing organizations, and the culmination of the graduates' hard work fuels our passion for the next program. We’re not consultants. We’re more than that. We’re a partner. Congratulations to the graduates of Pfizer’s 2024 EDGE Leadership Development Program for Senior Directors and Directors. Let's not kid ourselves. No one is in the office today, so you should take advantage of the peace and quiet with some professional development. Here are three articles to close the week and start strong on Monday. In honor of Independence Day, we’ve included some of our favorite thought leadership from just a few of our veterans, each offering a unique perspective on professional development. Lessons from Military Leaders: LTG (Ret) Tom Seamands, former chief people officer for the Army, and Brendan Leary, a former Navy SEAL, share their experiences in growing engagement, increasing retention, and empowering leadership. Link: https://lnkd.in/eMsA5cKf Leading through Crisis: Tim Lynch, a former Marine EOD Technician, details how the City of Boston assessed the changes in its operating environment, refocused its efforts to ensure alignment, and then rapidly responded to the coronavirus pandemic. Link: https://lnkd.in/ebKwyGK4 How to Build a Team of Teams: Christopher Fussell, a former Navy SEAL and McChrystal Group’s vice-chairman, explains how to build a Team of Teams in this special six-part Weekly Whiteboard series. Everything is cyclical. The employee journey is no exception. The workforce is changing. Millennials and Gen Z now make up the majority of employees, and their motivations and desires are vastly different from those of the generation before them. However, the models for supporting an effective Human Resources Lifecycle have not changed. These purpose-driven generations require more than a steady paycheck; they need a cause. McChrystal Group experts examined current models and barriers to attracting and retaining top talent and leveraged unique data to design an HR Lifecycle that begins with Vision and Mission. At the center of this model is a phased Implementation Framework to drive mission focus across every stage of the HR Lifecycle. This new HR Lifecycle improves employee engagement and drives organizational outcomes, ensuring HR activities drive value with every step in the employee journey. Check out how we've applied this unique model to federal service in our new whitepaper, "The Greatest Threat: America's Fight for Talent": https://lnkd.in/eCPZViVb This problem is not unique to the U.S. Government, and we've seen the transformative potential of this framework across various organizations. Leaders in both public and private sectors should consider this new model's power for building tomorrow's workforce.

Rudy Valentine epitomizes what it means to put others first and is an example to all of us of what servant leadership looks like. Rudy, thanks for all you've done for McChrystal Group for more than a decade. #happyretirement #itsnotgoodbye #seeyousoon

For too many organizations, goal setting looks something like this: 1️⃣ Create annual goals in December or January to guide the rest of the year 2️⃣ Check in on them once or twice, somewhere near the midpoint of the year 3️⃣ Review progress or completion of goals at the end of the year ❌ That approach to goal setting and tracking simply doesn't cut it anymore, especially with the speed of change and constant technological advancements. Discover how our team partnered with a leader in the pharmaceutical industry to apply rigor, accountability, and transparency to their generative AI rollout.
