Kelly Pullen, Executive Director of the Aetna Supporting Kentucky Youth (SKY) Program, recently discussed the state of youth mental health in Kentucky on WEKU. In particular, the discussion focused on the impacts of social media on mental health and strategies for navigating time outside of school, which can be isolating for many children. A recent CVS Health/Morning Consult survey found that 70 percent of parents are more concerned about their children’s mental health than their physical health. As we work to improve youth mental health collectively, we must increase the availability of mental health professionals and resources. The CVS Health Foundation recently awarded a grant to the Bounce Coalition to expand the coalition’s work in delivering community-based mental health trainings across Kentucky. This initiative is crucial in ensuring professionals are equipped to address the unique challenges that social media presents to youth mental health. Consultant/Speaker/Expert/Trainer. Raising awareness and finding solutions for behavioral health and justice.
As so many of us know, childhood experiences can impact health for life. "Self-Healing Communities" explores how communities work together to create healthier futures for all. This report offers a roadmap for building communities that understand and support those impacted by adverse childhood experiences. What I love in particular is how simple, practical efforts like educating about ACEs, being intentionally inclusive of all community members, and ensuring that policy is adaptive to the effects of interventions make a difference in building resilience and reducing trauma. Over 20% of children in low-income families face mental health challenges, yet many can't access the care they need. A groundbreaking study by Boston Medical Center and Boston University School of Public Health reveals a promising solution: integrating mental health services into pediatric primary care at Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs). If your child needs mental health support, consider centers that offer integrated care. If unavailable, advocate for centralized healthcare services, emphasizing the importance of timely and comprehensive care for our children's well-being.

“Helping children in crisis receive the support and care they need is vital to families and communities across our country,” said Representative John Joyce. #support #families #kids The groundbreaking EARLY Minds Act, spearheaded by Congressman August Pfluger and co-led by Representatives Kathy Castor, John Joyce, and John Sarbanes! This bipartisan legislation is a vital response to the escalating mental health crisis facing America's youth. #mh #crisis #youth With over 20% of youth contemplating suicide and 40% experiencing persistent feelings of sadness, proactive intervention is more crucial than ever. The EARLY Minds Act empowers states by allowing them to allocate up to 5% of their Mental Health Block Grant funding toward early intervention and prevention initiatives. By leveraging SAMHSA’s resources, we can identify and support individuals before mental health challenges escalate. Together, let's advocate for the EARLY Minds Act and pave the way for a brighter, healthier future for our children. #EARLYMindsAct #MentalHealthAwareness #help #mh #earlymindsact #biparti
Mental Health America proudly supports the Early Action and Responsiveness Lifts Youth (EARLY) Minds Act! This new bipartisan legislation would allow states to use up to five percent of Mental Health Block Grant funding for prevention and early intervention activities. Currently, states can't use ANY of these funds for prevention and early intervention. Thank you to Congressman August Pfluger for introducing this legislation! https://buff.ly/4cuxgc9 Fun fact: One of MHA's youth leaders created the acronym in the bill's title!
