Exciting event happening tomorrow: WHYY News + The Pulse: Bridging The Gaps For Latino Health Latino people are the largest racial or ethnic group in the United States, making up nearly 20 percent of the country’s population. Despite that, Latinos may feel alienated by our medical system due to cultural and language barriers, and a lack of Latino physicians. Those barriers can have a real impact on their overall health. In Philadelphia, many Latino residents are underinsured or uninsured according to data from the city’s Department of Public Health, and have trouble accessing regular and preventative health care. Join WHYY for dinner and a conversation about solutions to provide health care to Latino communities and patients. Join us for the eighth Think Bigger Do Good webinar featuring paper author Sharon Hoover, Ph.D. of the University of Maryland and Joe Pyle, M.A. of the Scattergood Foundation. They will discuss how resources could be best allocated to facilitate the delivery of effective and comprehensive supports and services to children and adolescents in schools. Schools are the main delivery sites for youth mental health services. Many districts have adopted comprehensive school mental health systems (CSMHS) to provide a multitiered approach comprising mental health promotion, prevention, and intervention to students via partnerships between school and community health and behavioral health providers. COVID-19 relief funding and other new federal and state investments in school mental health have led to expansions of school mental health programming in most states. An impending federal funding cliff necessitates an examination of how to wisely invest now to achieve the greatest positive future impact on youth mental health. https://lnkd.in/eypHAXqH

The Community Fund for Immigrant Wellness is seeking applications for its fifth cycle of grantmaking to support organizations that remove barriers and provide opportunities for individuals to live with dignity and joy. Organizations can apply for up to $50,000 to support the emotional health and wellbeing of immigrant and refugee communities. The funding is flexible and should be used to support programs that: -Create opportunities with immigrant communities to encourage care, positive coping strategies, and collective healing -Build spaces that cultivate meaningful connections among community members -Foster a sense of dignity and self-agency -Center cultural practices of participants Applications are due Wednesday, April 3rd, 2024 at 5pm ET. The webinar will feature Jean Mangan, J.D. and Andrea L. Dennis, J.D. of the University of Georgia School of Law and will be moderated by Jane Mogavero, ESQ. of the Patrick P. Lee Foundation. The speakers will discuss their new paper as well as recent court proceedings. Register today: https://lnkd.in/eCgxwWbT In the paper, authors examine the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Olmstead v L.C. ex rel. Zimring and related Supreme Court rulings that could raise questions about the Americans With Disabilities Act’s guarantee of care in integrated settings and about which governmental entity’s interpretation should be respected when deciding whether a state has met its integration obligation. After reviewing statutes, administrative regulations, and judicial decisions, the authors conclude that Olmstead’s integration mandate will likely stand, but actions should be taken to codify the rule in federal and state statutes so that governmental agencies will continue to have the authority to ensure compliance with the mandate. In less than a month Mayor-Elect Cherelle Parker and her team will officially take office.  As #Philly continues to experience unacceptable community-level outcomes in gun violence, drug deaths, and poverty as well as an impending fiscal cliff, we need to get smarter, faster, and more targeted in the way we tackle challenges.  The latest #VisionPhiladelphia paper is on the importance of data integration and partnerships to deliver better outcomes for all Philadelphians (https://lnkd.in/dydXrmjp) Thank you Dr. Anjali Chainani-Jha and Andres M.
