The U.S. Surgeon General (the administrator for public health in the US) has published its first framework on well-being and mental health. It has highlighted 5 main categories: 1. Protection from harm: safety and security 2. Connection and community: social support 3. Work-Life Harmony: autonomy and flexibility 4. Mattering at Work: dignity and meaning 5. Great, short read on the importance of mental health awareness for Men, an often under appreciated issue. Significant progress has been in our culture around acknowledging and supporting mental health, mostly focused on youth and women, I found this interesting and enlightening to dial into the uniqueness men face as well. Although women attempt suicide more, men account for nearly 80% of U.S. suicide deaths. It's crucial to address mental health for everyone and break the stigma. Today, #MentalHealth is an important public health issue that needs to be addressed and our respective workplaces can definitely improve in providing support to employees to ensure that they are on the top of their game by taking measures to positively impact employees' physical and mental well beings. Our workplace affects us greatly and is at the center of our lives whether we want to or not, taking up about 8-10 hours each of our day. Surgeon General’s Framework for Workplace Mental Health and Well-Being offers a foundation that workplaces can build upon and is a must-read for companies, leaders who want to make a positive and worthwhile impact on this matter.

Your employees are suffering and it's showing. You just don't see it. Most business owners heavily underestimate and don’t see the hidden costs in their employees feeling mediocre and many of them are fighting addictions (from internet, to drugs, to alcohol, to p*rn, etc.). This is especially true for remote positions. The isolation of the pandemic has skyrocketed addiction issues and it got the worst out of many people. By bringing together diversity and inclusion with health and wellbeing we can drive positive transformation in workplace mental health and performance.    By bringing together diversity and inclusion with health and wellbeing, we hope to drive positive transformation in workplace mental health and performance. Teams that feel safe and connected work better together. We want you to feel psychologically safe, seen, heard and valued which is why we have decided to get involved. In 2024, we should feel safe to bring our whole selves to work, without prejudice or consequence. That includes background, sexuality, religion, gender, health and mental health. Yet the research shows only 61% of employees feel they can do so. Despite a growing understanding of the importance of psychological safety in the workplace, this is a decline since 2020, when two thirds (66%) of workers felt able to.
