Product Hunt is a website, popular in the tech industry, where new products are launched, and people upvote the products. It's a popularity contest, to get upvotes, and it leads to more visibility over time. Many of these products become startups! I really hope more Cornellians found startups!!!

🐻🌲 I visited Cornell's Invasive Species Quarantine Facility, where Cornell researchers are combatting the invasive species Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA), that is killing NY State's Hemlock trees, by eating the tree's sap, stopping needle production, starving the trees over time!! The HWA invaders are already in the Finger Lakes, approaching the Adirondacks, and the Catskills, where the source of NYC's drinking water is surrounded by Hemlock Trees, those trees help keep the water clean! Cornell's NY State Hemlock Initiative is the front line of defense, breeding specialist predators that eat the HWA invaders, releasing the specialist predators at strategic spots across NY State, to save the Hemlock trees!! It is a fascinating multi-pronged initiative, all the way from the biological DNA analysis of the hemlock trees and HWA invaders, to the population studies of specialist predator propagation post-release, to the government partnerships with the NY Department of Environmental Conservation!!!

🐻🇺🇸 Happy July 4th!! Today, I'm reading John F Kennedy's Profiles in Courage, a book about US Senators "whose abiding loyalty to their nation, triumphed over all personal and political considerations." I find it inspiring, that these Senators had the courage to make decisions best for the nation, even when it is unpopular, against their party line, and destroys their re-election chances. It takes courage to be a politican. It takes courage to run in your first election, it takes courage to withstand attacks on controversial topics, it takes courage to legislate good policy for the nation's future. I'm so inspired by Cornellian politicans, Cornellians are such great politicians!! Ezra Cornell was a politician, AD White as well!! Cornell's new Brooks Policy School is the best policy school in the whole world, and the Cornell in Washington program has Cornell students interning in all the top legislatures, agencies, and NGOs! I really hope a Cornellian becomes President of America one day!! a courageous quote from the book: "I shall stand by the Union with absolute disregard of personal consequences. What are personal consequences in comparison with the good or evil which may befall a great country in a crisis like this? Let the consequences be what they will, I am careless. No man can suffer too much, and no man can fall too soon, if he suffer or if he fall in defense of the Liberties and Constitution of his Country."

🐻💼 Ithaca is growing!! Ithaca Area Economic Development helps businesses thrive in Ithaca, if you have a business, you should move to Ithaca!! there's so much open land (ie for agriculture or industry), a wonderfully skilled and hard working workforce, access to top research at Cornell, and a super supportive state/county/local government that is trying to grow the technology and industrial sectors!!!! There's so many exciting new developments, like the new 2 million sq ft residential/manufacturing space at SouthWorks and the new 15 thousand sq ft conference center!! Ithaca just gets better and better for businesses! 🐻🎉 79 Cornellians came to the Food Court Event last night!! my favorite story: 2 Cornellians became friends at the food court last year, and then last week, one drove from NYC to Virginia to attend the other's wedding!! Cornellian friendships are so wonderful!! Cornellians have a shared experience, many mutual friends, this is solid bedrock to build new friendships!! These friendships are easy to maintain too, come to the Food Court Events to see each other again and again, come to Reunion every year to see each again and again!!
