My Top 3 Key Actions to maximize a trade show: As I get ready to board my plane to attend JA New York show where I’ll be speaking, and the Hill & Co. Annual team meeting, here’s my tips! 1) Wrote a note - email or WhatsApp - to each new contact you exchanged cards with that day. Everyone. Before you go to sleep. This sets you apart. You know that feeling when you find a card in your bag back at the hotel and think “who was that”? 2) Let your network know you’ll be there. For 2-3 weeks before the show, let your network know you’ll be there by: • Posting it on your social media channels • Sharing via your emailed newsletter • Privately messaging targeted buyers, clients, thought leaders you would like to connect with or meet with at the show. Even if the audiences of this outreach won’t be there, you’ve created another touch-point, another contact. And, you’ve shared value by letting them know what events you deem worthy of attending. There point of showing up at a show is to connect with the people you want to in person, deepening your relationship. It is a wasted opportunity if you leave it to chance when there are so many ways you can increase the likelihood of having all the encounters you want. 3) Follow up after the show is over with a longer note and request a meeting to continue the conversrion. We all know how the excitement of a show and meeting someone in person can be lost once your back in your office plowing through emails. Make sure you keep the momentum going by exploring how the potential relationship holds up in the real world. My team and I follow this SOP every time we allocate budget to move our bodies to an event. And I think it is because of this that we were acknowledged by Kyle Roderick in Forbes as Influential Attendee’s at the VICENZAORO - ITALIAN EXHIBITION GROUP show last month.
