Pretty crazy that its 2024 and we still have to say WOMEN ARE JUST AS GOOD AS MEN. Just some facts that women leaders may actually be better: - 87% of the top 500 companies in 2022 led by a female decision-maker reported above-average profits, compared to just 78% of companies without a female CEO. - 2019 study from S&P Global found that firms with female CEOs and CFOs produced superior stock price performance, compared to the market average. - Harvard Business Review looked into what it takes to be a great leader and found that women outscored men in 17 of the 19 key leadership capabilities (from www.pinkchip.org). Women are hugely underrepresented at the CEO position, making up just 6% of CEOs globally. The decisions that these leaders make have a huge impact on a business’ performance while they are at the helm. (pinkchip.org) 💗💗

Here are my three key takeaways: 1. 𝗔𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁-𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Effective networking goes beyond asking standard questions. Craft questions that resonate with YOUR career aspirations while engaging the expertise of the professional you’re speaking to. For instance, if you’re drawn to the TMT industry, you might ask a TMT specialist, “How do you see AI altering the landscape for TMT valuations, and what moves should investment banks make to navigate this shift?” This showcases not just your industry interest but also a strategic mindset geared towards future trends. Be bold, be curious, and craft every question to open doors to the future you want to build. 2. 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆: The narratives of women leaders at the conference were truly motivating. They showed us how to use their position to create a substantial impact by identifying niche areas where your passion aligns with market needs. Seek out mentors who have a track record of implementing change and can guide you through the process. It’s about creating a strategic plan, gaining buy-in from key stakeholders, and executing it with precision. 3. 𝗨𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱: Regardless of your career path, your background can be a powerful asset. The conference emphasized the power of diverse backgrounds in shaping a successful post-MBA journey in finance. To capitalize on this in financial services, map out how your previous experiences connect to the competencies required in your desired career path. Additionally, engage with groups that share your interests, such as Consumer/Retail or TMT, to forge connections and discover paths that play to your strengths. This event not only broadened my understanding of potential career trajectories but also reinforced the importance of representation and support in these demanding fields. Over the past 9 weeks, I've been fortunate enough to participate in the incredible I2N at The University of Newcastle Female Founders Program.   While my initial idea wasn’t validated, the journey has been about much more. I've embraced the concepts of #designthinking to learn about the challenges and needs of specific populations—especially #pregnantwomen navigating work during pregnancy and returning to work and those recovering from illness or injury while re-entering the workforce. My research has uncovered the persistence of #workplacestigmas. These stigmas involve negative stereotyping or labeling individuals with conditions that carries social disapproval because of the undesirable perception, making their journey back to work more challenging. Limiting their ability to #thrive, both professionally and personally.   Workplace stigmas are not just obstacles but psychosocial hazards. They can impact workplace culture, wellbeing, safety, psychological safety, organisational performance and individuals’ positive mental health. We need to break these barriers and create a more inclusive and supportive work environments and this can be done by using #coachingpsychology. Coaching and #positivepsychology can support the application of learning around such topics (including unconscious bias and psychosocial hazards and risks) that affect workers’ psychological, emotional and social wellbeing. I will be pitching on Wednesday, 13th December, which involves sharing my journey and learnings, along with a number of other amazing women. Was delighted to be on a panel with Laura McGinnis, Chantal Cox and Annemarie Donegan earlier on this week invited by PitchBook for the launch of their inaugural "European All In Female Founders in the VC Ecosystem" report. There are signs of progress being made, with the amount of capital invested in female-led businesses increasing year on year, but progress is relatively slow... ➡️ All-male founding teams in Europe have raised more than €10bn in funding every year since 2015. By contrast, all-female founding teams have only passed the €1bn milestone once, in 2021.  ➡️ Women make up just 15% of the decision makers across Europe's VC firms. Proud of the 200+ firms that have signed up to the Investing in Women Code, which includes 170 VC firms but there is still lots more to be done to drive change across the whole ecosystem! The Women-Led High-Growth Enterprise Taskforce has identified 7 opportunities to break down the barriers faced by women when starting and scaling high-growth enterprises, whether it is access to fairer funding, or to much-needed advice, role models, and resources (see comments for link to full report). 1. Ensure that “women-led high-growth enterprises” are truly led by women 2. Improve diversity of senior investment professionals 3. Increase signatories to the Investing in Women Code 4. Drive inclusive behaviour through regulation, monitoring, and action by investors 5. Roll out Female Founder Growth Boards across the regions of England 6. Inspire girls and women to become high-growth entrepreneurs 7.  Improve data collection and research Let's all work together to drive change, innovation and growth!

I’m on the plane home from another great event by #PEI - the Women in Private Markets Summit. I had a few minutes to compile my takeaways. First!! The comraderie from a female dominated Private Equity conference is really profound. How incredible to hear from all women panels and be in productive think tanks of women who have paved the way in PE before me. As a young female professional, I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to attend this event and hear from these amazing people. ++ Pictured below is the day 1 DEI panel; the information shared sparked some really eye opening conversations - cool to sit in on this with our female CFO, Karen Weller, CA, CPA, CTP. Second.. I’m never going to be done learning. Ever. My rapid note taking skills have improved and I’m excited to digest these thoughts and do my research to implement these market tactics in my work. (Shoutout to my fiancé for my new electronic note taker, such a fun tool!) Third.. The LP perspective on Q4 is positive. There’s light at the end of the tunnel. I’m excited to watch our firm rocket to the sky. Fundraising is a tough exercise but there is capital out there and I’m confident in our teams investment strategies. Last thing.. Responsible and sustainable investments are needed. They’re wanted. They are imperative. They also yield higher returns with lower risks. I’m excited to work for a firm that lives this daily and is dedicated to a greener future!
