As a business owner, I always have a stack of resumes sitting on my desk, which I review regularly. Outside of education and work experience, one category I've always paid attention to are hobbies, and I’ve noticed some people list reading as their hobby. "Can reading really be a hobby?" I often wonder. The Webster's Dictionary defines a hobby as "An activity outside of one's regular occupation that is engaged in primarily for pleasure." I spend a lot of my leisure time reading. The IRS defines a hobby as "any activity that a person pursues because they enjoy it and with no intention of making a profit." Hmm... I may need to amend my returns. As a voracious reader who has spent decades plowing through books, magazines, and newspapers, my reading hobby has profited me in priceless ways. It has advanced my career, helped me grow personally and professionally, and enlightened me to our greater purpose here on earth. Like a truffle hunter, I'm always foraging around bookstores, magazine racks, and media websites to find the "good stuff" to read. Whenever I stumble upon Michael Thompson’s articles, I always save them in my top pocket because they're loaded with nutritional insights and wholesome wisdom that make life taste better. So you can't imagine my delight when Michael's new book, "Shy by Design: 12 Timeless Principles to Quietly Stand Out," arrived at my house today. I can't wait to dig into this book because I know I will profit greatly from the life lessons Michael shares with readers about how he turned his "perceived" weakness—being a lifelong stutterer with debilitating social anxiety—into his greatest strength. We live in a world where the loudest voices seem to get all the attention, but Michaels shows readers how to rise above the noise and stand out by listening to that inner voice of wisdom. #personalgrowth #careeradvice #professionaldevelopment #growth #wisdom #communication #writing #life #shy #strength
reading is not a hobby, its a habit Kevin Ervin Kelley, AIA
Isn't it just one of those life enjoyments when the aroma of the independent or used bookstores pleasantly drifts into your nostrils? Since the invention of writing, the tablets, scrolls and books have been the life giving learning that humans crave...
Thanks for the book reccomendation. I think certain types of books are a hobby. Reading a biography of a person you admire for example. If I’m reading a business book that’s for a knowledge I can utilize towards increasing my wealth
Thank you for the recommendation. Will check it out. Regarding reading: I once listened to an interview with the legendary director Werner Herzog who said when people come to him for advice on becoming a director, he tells them to read.
Reading is honestly one of the best hobbies to have. One of the best things I've learnt.
I'm so glad it got to you and thank you so much for making the last few years so damn enjoyable while doing hard things together. Massive hug and thank you again for being you.
Sounds terrific - adding it to my list!

1wKevin Ervin Kelley, AIA Reading is definitely my hobby. Hours everyday, if I could recommend two great books I just finished.
