Check out my Association for Accounting Marketing (AAM) blog post where I share highlights from a podcast conversation I had with the talented Suzanne Reed, MBA of LBMC. Proven top-producing sales leader with an impeccable track record of exceeding targets and building award-winning teams while also coaching, mentoring and leading individuals to success in all phases of life.
Are you a sales leader? Here is something you should think about the next time you critique one of your team members. HubermanLabs is one of my favorite podcasts. For those of you unfamiliar with the Podcast, Andrew Huberman is a renowned Stanford Scientist, and he regularly shares tips and advice for all areas of life based on scientific evidence. Recently he shared some fantastic insight on a critical aspect of child development, and I believe it is something every parent and every leader needs to know: The way you praise a child significantly impacts their response and long-term development. Here’s the essential takeaway from these findings. Telling a child, “You're so smart,” “You're so pretty,” or “You are so sweet,” can have a negative effect on their long-term results, and here's why. When a child is told “you are so smart” repetitively, they may subconsciously start avoiding tasks that make them appear less bright, restricting them from stepping out of their comfort zone. The same principle applies when we tell children they are “so pretty” or “so sweet” – they may start avoiding situations where they might not look pretty or can’t act sweetly. So, what’s the alternative? Praise that emphasizes effort, like “You really tried hard!” or "I'm so proud of your effort," has been shown to have a positive impact. When you praise a child about how hard they tried, they tend to gravitate towards tasks that require work and effort, which promotes a growth mindset and a willingness to embrace challenges. This kind of praise cultivates resilience, perseverance, and a positive work ethic – attributes that are essential for success in life. I have learned this to be true in sales leadership, as well. Praising a salesperson or team member for their hard work, positive attitude, and eagerness to go the extra mile—instead of just focusing on the numbers—is a secret weapon the best sales leaders implement daily. They know that steering their teams to focus on the process and the journey that leads to great results, fires up motivation way more than just managing by the numbers. In this environment, success isn't just a goal—it’s the natural outcome of genuine effort and dedication. How can you practically implement this in your daily interactions and one on ones with team members? Before you toss out praise or criticism, take a second to ask yourself: “Am I acknowledging their effort, or am I zeroing in on an outcome that might've been totally out of their hands?” Sure, results are the endgame—they’re super important. But if you're leading with a focus on the process, the results will come naturally. https://lnkd.in/gFkHGzKK

Founder | Strategist | Podcast Host I guide #CEOs to increase sales and their valuation. Skier⛷️ Sailor ⛵️
Here’s a company that does it right. 🙌 Last year I attended SaaStr and before the event I made a post to let my friends and followers know I would be there. 😁 Because of that post, I found many of my friends were going and LinkedIn connections that I had never met were going. One of them was Mel Doherty. Mel is doing it right. She commented on my post and then she sent me a lovely message asking me if I would like to meet with her #CEO, Eduardo C. at SaaStr. She was secretly thinking, I'd like to get him on your podcast but she didn't ask for that. She asked me to meet him. She had an ulterior motive. She wanted us to build a relationship. This approach immediately struck a chord with me. No flashy sales pitches, just a sincere focus on building meaningful relationships. That's the kind of strategy that resonates in today's competitive landscape. In the latest episode of #salestalkforceos, I sat down with Eduardo to dissect one of the most crucial topics in business today . . . GROWTH. 🌿 Growth—it's the Holy Grail for every CEO, but navigating the path to sustainable expansion can be tricky. Guess what. I did end up having Eduardo on my podcast 🎙 . . . and he shared 3 thoughtful tactics that you might consider using. 1️⃣ Prioritize Relationships Over Sales Pitches: Shift your focus from selling to building genuine connections. It's not about pushing products; it's about understanding and solving client problems. 2️⃣ Tap Into Your Network: Your personal and professional connections are invaluable assets. Don't underestimate the power of leveraging your network to identify new opportunities and forge meaningful partnerships. 3️⃣ Empower Your Team: Sales shouldn't be confined to a select few. Encourage every member of your team to see themselves as potential contributors to sales efforts. Harness the collective power of your team's networks and connections. Eduardo's advice, "Forget that you need to sell and start focusing more on the relationship... that's a better start." So, if you're serious about propelling your company to success, tune in to this episode and unlock some of Eduardo's secrets to growth in today's competitive landscape. Listen below 👇 P.S. I am also doing a project with Eduardo and his team for my son's business. Ya just never know what can happen when you start by building a relationship.

"You can turn a reader into new business. You can also turn readership into business insights." My colleague Adrian Lürssen recently made this insightful observation during a conversation with David Ackert on an episode of David's Market Leaders Podcast. The discussion focused on reader data, thought leadership, and business development strategies. Adrian emphasized, "The Business Value of One Reader is that they follow you to become an ongoing, habitual reader of your thought leadership." It's crucial to note that having industry and company reader data is essential in today's landscape. If you don't have this data, we should definitely talk. . #ThoughtLeadership #BusinessDevelopment #ReaderData #BusinessInsights #ContentStrategy

Prospecting isn't dead, you're just not doing it right. Want replies from multi-millionaire CEOs? 🤑 Use these 5 steps: 𝟭. 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Don't slide into their DMs on social media. Every CEO checks their emails daily, take advantage of this. 𝟮. 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺. It's simple, if you don't have a solution to their problem, they won't be interested. 𝟯. 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗲𝗴𝗼. Show you've done your research. Mention a podcast they've featured in, a LinkedIn post you've seen or a book they've written. 𝟰. 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆. Don't ask for too much. Show that you appreciate they're busy and you don't want much in return. 𝟱. 𝗥𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱. Whats in it for them? Put yourself in their shoes and think what would make you respond to a cold email. Anything else you'd add...?
