Shoot for the Moon: Lessons from John Quinn

Shoot for the Moon: Lessons from John Quinn

My father’s immigrant story is not unlike many other immigrant stories in the United States: John Quinn was a poor Irishman from County Mayo who came to America with $20 and a change of clothes. From here, he built a life and a legacy for myself and my siblings to follow. Part of that legacy entails one of his most famous sayings: “Always shoot for the moon.”

While John Quinn may not be here today, his hard work and ambition remain within myself, and it is my duty to share this legacy with everybody whom I meet.

This is why I challenge each company and individual to encourage their staff and themselves to shoot for the moon. The first step in building strong cultures is acknowledging and uplifting your team. Listen to the intern’s idea, check up on your employee, offer some positive words to your supervisor! When we support one, we support all. Building this motivation into your daily operations can totally shift the tone of your entire organization.

Take a lesson from John Quinn: Shoot for the moon; if your team gets halfway there, be proud and recognize their achievements!

Beautiful and very inspiring, Erin! Just like your father, I am an immigrant that always dreamed to have a shining Star. I achieved my goal. I am a well known Real Estate Broker in the Westchester, NY. I have a beautiful daughter that became a Mathematician and was relocated to work in Paris. Anyway, I live the real American dream!  I love working with all my clients! I get to work with people from walks of life and different cultures.
