DO YOU EVEN LIKE WHISKY? THE BARRIERS HOLDING BACK WOMEN IN THE INDUSTRY
OurWhisky Foundation has such a critical mission. I greatly respect founder Becky Paskin and her team of amazing women.
I am one of the women who answered the poll. I gave honest answers from my experience in the industry and being a female consumer. We have done much work towards equality since I began working in the hospitality and spirits industry. However, this report hurts my heart. There is still so much to be done.
Here are a few statistics from the report;
“81% of women working in whisky have been asked if they ‘actually like whisky’ while at work or making a purchase.”
“Only 16% of those polled think the industry is doing enough to change Whisky’s masculine image, and the same number feels that women are fairly represented in whiskey advertising and marketing.”
“70% of respondents have experienced inappropriate or sexual remarks while doing their job.”
This report is a glaring example of the work ahead of us and the need for allies and change. I am so proud of the women in my industry who continue to blaze trails for all of us. Thank you!

Last month we conducted a survey of women in the global whisky industry to discover the challenges they face in the workplace.
Believe it or not, this was the first time women in the global industry have been asked about their experiences. For the first time, we wanted to make their voices heard.
The results are shocking, but not surprising.
