Watched the movie Nyad with my daughter last night. It’s an inspiring story of grit and perseverance about an athlete who challenged herself at age 64 to become the first person ever to swim from Cuba to Florida over 100 miles succeeding on her 5th attempt! It brought back tons of memories as she was the speaker at the Equifax Global Leadership Conference in 2018 where company leaders gathered for the first time after the massive security breach of 2017. The things Nyad said after her record swim were right on point and something we all needed to hear: 1. Never Give up (Six months following the incident were exhausting, had taken a toll on all of us, and it wasn’t about to get easier) 2. You are never too old to chase your dreams (a 100 yr. old company was trying to reinvent itself) 3. It takes a team to succeed (which had to be done, and like never before to lift us out of this existential crisis). It was a much-needed reminder for me as the challenges have grown and the same principles have to be amplified and applied at our current transformation at CDW. Even personally, the need to learn and evolve is more critical than ever to stay relevant in this in the dynamic and fast changing technology landscape. I shared all this with my 11-year-old during the movie, not sure how much she registered as she was trying to concentrate on the movie ignoring another “life lesson” from Mom. But we both certainly left in awe and respect for Diana Nyad's endurance and champion mindset. Highly recommend as a weekend watch!
Smriti Jain , I watched the movie a while ago and have been able to apply many of Nayad’s learnings as I battled through my feet problems. Incredibly inspiring story!

2wSmriti, what a great post. I am sure this will have a impact on your 11 year old. Just a incident I want to share when I was a child around your daughter’s age. My dad got a poster which said “Before you say you can’t do it, always say I tried” and he told me a few times why that is important. Till this date anytime I am Frustrated or feel like giving up- I remind myself did I atleast try😀. This has helped me overcome many a challenges and frustrations going thru a massive transformation.
