About two years ago, Northwestern University - Kellogg School of Management partnered with Northwestern’s McCormick School of Engineering to develop the MBAi program to offer students a graduate business degree with a curriculum focused on the intersection of business and Artificial Intelligence. With my background in AI/ML and connection to the school (undergrad + graduate), I was asked to join the MBAi program as an advisor. Part of my responsibility is helping shape the curriculum, advising on industry trends, and identifying opportunities for students to get real world project experience. At the culmination of the MBAi program, students complete a capstone project in partnership with industry. Last year, CDW stepped forward as a partner for the program and sponsored a project within CDW. A group of students worked with Kate Stepankovskaya and Rick Lockwood from our Technology & Digital teams on a project to utilize machine learning to improve the performance and intelligence of our search engine. Kate and Rick established the scope and gave the group a set of problems to tackle, and the students set off to design, build, deploy, and test their AI algorithm. The students were particularly excited to work on a real problem with access to real data from our search engine—which also made it interesting for us. In December, the students presented their project to the leadership teams for Technology and Digital, followed by a reception and poster presentation on Northwestern’s campus. The team did an awesome job and won third place! It's been fun to work with the next generation of talent, and Northwestern has been an excellent partner. I’m looking forward to CDW continuing to pave the way for others in our industry to work with educational institutions on their curriculum and projects.
