France... what's next? 🇫🇷🗳️ The latest elections have thrust Marine #LePen’s far-right Rassemblement National into the spotlight, capturing widespread frustration. Le Pen’s RN snagged 34% of the first-round vote. That means a significant chunk of the electorate (1 in 3) feels totally sidelined by #Macron’s centrist policies, seeing them as out of touch with their everyday struggles. If Rassemblement National wins, it could push Macron into a messy "cohabitation" government, with far-right #Bardella potentially taking the reins and stealing the spotlight from Macron, once the "enfant prodige" of French politics, and becoming, at just 28, the youngest Prime Minister ever in France. But this shift isn't just about France; it's part of a bigger European trend. 🇮🇹 Remember Italy in 2022? We saw a similar right-wing surge driven by concerns about immigration and national identity. Great to witness the gorgeous Eiffel Tower against a clear sky. Incredibly exciting times here in Europe, with a few days more to go until the second round of French elections, and of course, the Big Day tomorrow for the UK... May a stable and consistent leadership emerge from the latter; as for whether the Centre would hold just yet in the former, much will turn on and bear on the fertility of strategic voting and candidate strategisation (cf. the latest numbers on drop-outs) between the battered incumbent coalition and the clearly dominant (vis-a-vis Macron's party) Left-wing coalition.

President Macron's decision to call legislative elections in early June has significantly impacted the French political landscape. The extreme right has reached its highest support levels since the Fifth Republic's inception, posing a risk that Macron's gamble could empower a party traditionally viewed as incompatible with republican values. Key questions arise, such as whether Marine Le Pen's deputy, Jordan Bardella, will become Prime Minister, or if Macron can defy the polls and emerge stronger. Additionally, the viability of the left-wing alliance overcoming internal divisions and presenting a genuine alternative is in question. The old Gaullist right's survival amid a potential alliance with the extreme right is also uncertain. #europeanchampions. The French president has largely lost the legislative elections in France. What does this mean for competition and industrial policy in Europe? It is very likely that the government will change, and Bruno Le Maire who has championed the "European champions à la française" approach for nearly seven years, may no longer hold the economic portfolio. It remains unclear who will come into power. However, the next government may push for a more nationalistic approach. If this shift occurs, France might leverage Europe less for its own interests, potentially diminishing its narrative that European champions are essential. Despite this, Emmanuel Macron is likely to remain influential in Europe and could shape the next Commission.

Global Left, right and center France is set for unprecedented political uncertainty as the New Popular Front emerged as the surprise winner of legislative elections, securing more seats than President Emmanuel Macron's Ensemble alliance and Marine Le Pen's National Rally. But with no side securing a majority, modern France will see its first parliament without a dominant party. Traders appear to have played down the uncertainty, with the CAC 40 Index (CAC:IND) reversing earlier losses to rise nearly 1%. As the three groups have widely differing agendas when it comes to issues ranging from taxes to immigration, it's unclear how they will move forward to form a government.

Macron was the winner of this weekend elections in France. And to stay in power, he is ready to turn France to ashes. Macron managed to keep the RN away from power despite being the largest political party in France. He also cut the traditional right "Les Republicains" in 2 parts, one making an alliance with the RN, and the other part refusing to join. I don't think the RN wanted the power right now, and would rather wait until the next presidential elections and collect the dividends of the mess that is being generated by Macron, to win both presidency and parliament majority. Likely unexpected, the alliance on the left was only made to save some seats in the parliament, but is so heterogeneous that they'll never be able to vote together. In my opinion, the leftist NFP is likely to implode rather sooner than later based on their differences, and Macron will definitely be happy to help. After breaking the right into pieces, Macron will now do the same with the left, and likely run the country with a relative majority, combining the leftovers from the right "Les Républicains", the socialists (center left where the next PM might well come from), some ecologists, and alliances of circumstances. Macron is ready to rule on a field of ruins, especially if the French debt is attacked in the coming months. The perfect set up to realize his main objective: turn France into a European region. Notre Dame burning will remain the symbol of Macron's presidency. #france #elections #chaos
