For Inside Philanthropy, this is a look the large geographic disparity in funding for #criminaljustice. Despite (or perhaps because of) their comparatively better incarceration rates, #NewYork and #California received roughly 50% of all #grantmaking commitments from 2018-2022. As a result, #funders may well be missing an opportunity to score some relatively easy wins in overlooked states where the situation is objectively worse. This piece is the result of a lot of input and teamwork. With thanks to Garance Franke-Ruta and Philip Rojc for their skillfull editing, and to Nick Turner, Marina Fisher, Angie Junck, Alexander Busansky, and Ana Zamora for their generosity with their time and expertise. #philanthropy #criminaljusticereform #cjreform #grants
