🔴Swiss Startup Awards winners 2023 and 🔵 Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas at the global launch of GII 2023 #Switzerland has been the most innovative country in the world for many years according to the Global Innovation Index (#GII) of the World Intellectual Property Organization (#WIPO). So it's no wonder that dozens of start-ups sprout up every year in all kinds of industries in this country. Yesterday, the most promising young companies of the year celebrated at the Swiss Startup Awards. Read more: https://lnkd.in/dY7ejaQ. Two fields were particularly well represented this year: #Cleantech and artificial intelligence (#AI). The winner was biotech company „Haya Therapeutics“, which develops precision medicines, including a promising RNA therapy for cardiac fibrosis, which is currently considered incurable. The 2nd place went once again to food producer "Planted", the ETH spin-off that produces vegan substitute products from pea protein and without additives. The 3rd place went to the winner of the last year, „Yokoy Group“ from Zurich. Yokoy, the fintech start-up, that uses AI to automate the entire corporate spending and credit card process. All three companies were founded in 2019 and have created more than 520 new jobs and invested a total of CHF 237 million since their foundation. 🌍 News from the 8th Viva Technology event in Paris! The event gathered 165,000 attendees from 120 countries and showcased 13,500 startups. Africa shone brightly with startups from Algeria, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, and Tunisia. Highlights included -Algeria’s state-run accelerator “Algeria Venture,” -Senegal’s AI-powered retail software by “Rengo AI,” -Côte d’Ivoire’s eco-friendly “Coliba Africa.” This event underscores Africa’s growing role in the global tech ecosystem. African startups are not only innovating but also addressing critical issues like sustainability and retail efficiency. In 2022, InsureCow won the championship title in the Idea Stage category of the Huawei ICT Incubator program. It was not merely a victory; it was a game-changer. The recognition, seed money, Huawei cloud credits, and business connections we received have been instrumental in our rapid growth. Huawei’s commitment to promoting us among their portfolio companies has propelled us to new international heights, allowing us to scale our platform and expand our impact. Their support has been a catalyst for our growth and success. Since then, we have been on an amazing adventure. In the Gitex Supernova Challenge 2023, we became champions in the Insurtech Disruptor category, surpassing hundreds of globally recognized global startups. This year, we have also been named winners in the MENA Insurtech Association competition and acknowledged by world-renowned accelerators, incubators, and investors. These milestones have spotlighted our work, but our first international award from Huawei will always hold a special place in our hearts—like a first love. Huawei's support has been incredible. They documented the entire story since our inception and how InsureCow is making a difference for smallholder farmers in rural Bangladesh through a captivating visual narrative. Data analysis of Mind The Bridge shows that globally connected ecosystems move faster from stage to stage, while for more local clusters the growth path takes longer. There are 4 stages: - Standup: initial growth stage, from 2 to 3 years. - Startup: doubling number of scaleups, 4 years. - Scaleup: the time to cross the previous stage is 7 years - Star: additional 4-5 years to reach the 2,500 scaleups threshold.
