"How do we better engage the large Global SI partners for our offering? That's our challenge!" In recent interactive sessions, three c-level executives from sizable SaaS providers echoed this sentiment. Their products mainly aim for simplified user experiences with implementation times measured in *weeks, not months. But here's their *Provider Paradox*: what's appealing to end-users isn't necessarily attractive to the GSI ecosystem. Large GSIs thrive on sophisticated (aka complex) platforms with extended implementation times, where they can generate $3-5 for every product dollar, unlike the <$1 returns from simpler products. This model allows them to build robust practices around those platforms, as experienced firsthand during my 4 year tenure at Andersen Consulting in the 90s (where I personally experienced the Rise of ERP). So, how do we entice GSIs when our products promise lower implementation costs? It's a tough nut to crack. One approach I've observed is GSIs bundling our offerings within larger business transformation initiatives for large enterprise clients, leveraging our solutions as part of operationalizing these transformations. Rather than building a dedicated practice around our offering, GSIs selectively incorporate it into broader transformation deals. That's been my observation, but I'm open to other perspectives on this.
