I am thrilled that CARE is leading on this important project in #Bangladesh with the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. Not only will it help protect two incredibly important #ecosystems and support the people who depend on them, it is also shifting the dial on local leadership. The #Sundarbans is the largest mangrove forest in the world and home to many rare species, including tigers, dolphins and river terrapins. #HakalukiHaor is a complex wetland system that has been significantly impacted by various factors including climate change-induced flooding, deforestation for farming, and illegal encroachments for agricultural expansion. CARE Bangladesh's deep expertise in ecosystem-based and locally-led adaptation, alongside the expertise of our 8 partners, will deliver: 🌏 Increased #climate resilience of more than 210,000 vulnerable households living within these areas, totalling around one million people. ☁ Strengthened climate and weather information services and investment in #ClimateResilient infrastructure 👨🌾 develop #livelihood practices which have a net positive impact on the natural surroundings – meaning ecosystems are protected whilst livelihoods strengthened. 👭 focus on #women, #girls and the most marginalised to ensure their voices are heard and their needs responded to. We are working closely with four local organisations as consortium partners to deliver this project Center for Natural Resource Studies (CNRS), Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Research (C3ER), BRAC University, Dushtha Shasthya Kendra (DSK) and Friendship NGO. Our local partners are central to the design, decision-making and delivery of this project, delivering over 26% of the programme work and receiving indirect cost recovery to support their long-term sustainability. Their expertise and deep understanding of these ecosystems and the communities that live in and around them are central to the project's success. #localleadership #locallyled #pledge4change #climatechange #climateresilience #adaptation #climateadaptation #ecosystems #Bangladesh #Asia #internationaldevelopment #womenandgirls CARE International UK CARE Bangladesh

CARE is leading on a new project in #Bangladesh, one of the countries on the frontline of the climate crisis. Led by CARE in partnership with national and international organisations, the project will work alongside communities to strengthen climate resilience in two Ecologically Critical Areas: the Sundarbans mangrove forest and Hakaluki Haor wetland system. Over the next five years, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office project aims to increase the climate resilience of more than 210,000 vulnerable households living within these areas.
