The Residential Green Building Market and Green Building Certifications: Where Are We and Why? https://buff.ly/3xmsFGd Researching green building certification programs created broader, more complex questions about the state of the residential green building market. Green building residential adoption still feels too slow to many experienced practitioners. Not all builders fully understand green building or building science, but increasingly many must consider sustainability and building performance questions in their building practices, especially in areas with stricter requirements and as technology evolves and costs drop. This combination of requirements, a goal to deliver top quality and stand out, an often quite sincere desire to do good, and the constant pressure to keep costs down, all while actively delivering on current projects can be a challenge to say the least. Fortunately, several industry leaders were willing to share their experiences, each from different backgrounds in green building and representing various market sectors. As we near the end of Climate Week NYC, we're revisiting this prescient and informative article from Architect Wayne Turett, RA,LEED Green Associate. In How Architects Can Reduce Construction Waste on Their Next Projects, written for Green Building and Design, Wayne explores product life cycle, shares tips to reduce waste, and explains why reducing waste in the built industry is so important. If you work in architecture, design or construction, we highly recommend taking a few minutes to read the story here: https://lnkd.in/eb_8_zq2 #sustainabledesign #reducingwaste #climateweeknyc #productlifecycle #builtindustry #architecture #design

“”Linking net zero and affordable housing makes sense if we are to meet housing need, reduce our impact on the environment and create a more equitable, fairer society.” “Retrofitting existing buildings should come before constructing new ones…. “VAT rates between new-builds and retrofits should be equalised…” So much good stuff in here - thanks to Alex Ely of Mæ Architects in Architects’ Journal as below 👇 Doesn’t this just make so much sense? #austainabilityleadership SDG 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12 & 13 +

Have you seen this #LEED study? 👀 As we do whatever we can to make sure our buildings are as efficient as possible, it's important to make sure we're making the right choices in #buildingstandards. A 2023 study found that LEED certification had no effect on average energy consumption in federal buildings. Read more about the study, and how Passive House can help, in our latest blog post: https://hubs.ly/Q02GY7tv0 #architecture #buildingconstruction #buildingrenovation #certifiedpassivehouse #cityplanning #climateaction #construction #decarbonization #design #efficiencyfirst #energy #energyefficiency #energyconsumption #passivhaus #passivehouse #policy #realestate #sustainability

From promises to action: How the building sector is actively responding to zero-carbon targets? Sustainability, circularity and Net Zero Carbon are core topics for the building and construction industry. Today we would like to introduce two of our current projects where the overall reduction of environmental impacts has been put into practice: 81 Newgate Street and 1 Broadgate. Panorama St Paul’s 81 Newgate Street is a high-profile redevelopment at the heart of London. An outdated 1980s office building will be transformed into a mixed-use building. The project minimizes environmental impact by reusing Portland stone from the existing building, offering at the same time the lowest-impact redevelopment of the site, saving up to three years of demolition and reducing the whole life carbon footprint. For the 1 Broadgate project, a whole life carbon approach to design was adopted, meaning that the building operates with minimal carbon emissions and the lowest energy use. Responsible sourcing and circular economy principles have been also incorporated into the design and procurement processes, ensuring the selection of materials and components with the best environmental performances and facilitating deconstruction and reuse of the building at the end of its life. Discover more about these projects here: - Panorama St Paul's 81 Newgate: https://lnkd.in/dhRacD7H - 1 Broadgate: https://lnkd.in/dDzRtBhE Discover more about our road to sustainability: https://lnkd.in/dJNCyYSK #Architecture #Façade #FaçadeEngineering #FaçadeDesign #SBTi #Sustainability #CarbonEmissions #ScienceBasedTargets #NetZero #CarbonReduction #GHG
