Modelling the installation of #offshorewind projects in different parts of the world, we get to see the varied metocean conditions installers have to compete with. I personally find it fascinating how much it changes in between countries and regions, and the dramatic impact it has on cost and duration. So to start the week I thought I'd put out a little quiz...can you guess which chart represents the East coast of Scotland? The charts show, for three different countries, the modelled installation durations using #ForeCoastMarine, if the installation were to start on different months of the year. The blue and orange bars represent two different installation strategies with jack up barges or heavy lift vessels. 🔟🎉The U.S. offshore wind industry hit another milestone yesterday! St. Johns Ship Building, Inc. Shipbuilding launched its WINDEA Enterprise vessel, making it the 10th new-build CTV launch for the industry (and the fifth this year). U.S. shipbuilders are abuzz with activity constructing new vessels and retrofitting old ones to serve near-term projects as the offshore wind industry moves into full scale operation. CTVs are the workhorses of the industry and St. John's Shipbuilding is a prime example of the jobs and economic development offshore wind energy is bringing to communities across the U.S.! Keep 👀, #DYK 16 more have already been announced? 👏🏼 Offshore wind is working and so are American shipyards! 👏🏼⛴️

If you want to see a path towards building new OSVs perhaps look to Brazil where they are taking positive measurable steps to jumpstart their offshore shipbuilding business and build the next generation of OSVs incorporating lower emission technologies and fuels. How long until the US, EU, UK, and Asia take similar measures to help support the construction of newbuild OSVs to replace their ever aging fleets of OSVs which are currently relied upon to deliver both their offshore Oil & Gas and some offshore renewables operations? As the global OSV fleet ages are those Energy Producer Charterers perhaps opening themselves upon to new risks and liabilities associated with these older vessels? Please keep in mind that many of vessels in the global OSV fleet are now at or approaching 20 +- years of age with end of life issues abounding and limited ability to have their emissions reduced barring complete rebuilding/ refurbishment (perhaps an option in some select cases) What support will it take to get other countries to jumpstart their OSV shipbuilding programs?

Removing #Drydock Requirement for #FSRU   The combined implications of geopolitical challenges, the #EnergyTransition and the drive for minimising environmental impact have led to a rapid increase in the number of FSRUs servicing national energy requirements globally.   Moored alongside a wharf close to an onshore LNG plant and/or a gas-fired power station, or near shore with pipeline connectivity, they are so positioned to fulfil their operational task.   Coming off station and in to drydock for mandated survey, maintenance, repair or upgrade will mean that operational task will not be fulfilled, with significant financial implications; this course of action was how FPSOs had to start.   Technology encouraged by the HITS JIP has transformed the #FPSO industry's views on diving and in the process become safer and more productive; EM&I Group has developed techniques for survey and now repair which remove requirement for drydock, allowing #diverless survey, #remote tank #inspection, and complex underwater repair without the need for drydock, minimising human intervention and enabling continuing fulfilment of those operational tasks.   ODIN diverless underwater services, NoMan EXTRA remote inspection techniques and other innovative techniques will enable FSRUs to remain on station, fulfilling energy requirements.
