Faculty members from Kenyan universities have completed the Microsoft Africa Development Centre’s intensive upskilling programme in partnership with Microsoft Leap. With a 100% completion rate, the programme empowered lecturers with cutting-edge technological advancements to bridge the gap between academia and industry demands. Irene Githinji Education Engagements Lead at Microsoft ADC, highlighted the programme's impact on enhancing faculty skills in teaching and research, emphasizing the growing importance of artificial intelligence in modern education. The curriculum, developed in collaboration with Microsoft Leap instructors, focused on AI, software engineering fundamentals, and 21st-century learning design, culminating in Microsoft certifications for participating faculty. Yolanda Natal-Santos, Director of Microsoft Leap, underscored the programme's dual impact in advancing individual careers and strengthening educational institutions across Kenya. Faculty from various universities, including Zetech University, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), and Strathmore University, participated in project-based learning to deepen their understanding of AI and software development principles. The programme's success was celebrated with a project competition judged by Microsoft engineers, highlighting innovative solutions developed by participating lecturers.
