If anybody wants to speak about automation and share two way experiences then please reach out, we will have our experts in town and we can talk about how we are approaching it in existing operations. The required enablers and mindset are the same as greenfield, but the starting position is very different and requires respect. In both existing and new operations though, we see the need for automation to be a first class citizen in all we do and recommend the establishment of a centralized Automation Center of Excellence. I think we as an industry have a grip on domain level automation, it is when we try to achieve the cross-domain and system level approaches that we need to have a holistic view on data buses, data models and cross domain orchestration. All this challenges how we organize, how we govern, how we secure and how we collaborate. The other area of passion/discussion is solving top line. To be successful as an industry requires not only extreme efficiency but new business operations and growth. Online monetization is actually the core business of Rakuten, and it starts with members not subscribers, and with points, rewards and attribution, monetization. The online world is going to change more in the next 5 years than it has in the previous 15. The death of cookies, the era of regulation, privacy and security, and the application of AI, for both good and bad uses... What can telecom do there to not only participate, but lead and solve what societies, countries and businesses need? The real reason for Rakuten interest in telecom perhaps... ‘Sometimes you’re ahead. Sometimes you’re an ice cream’ 🍦 🚀 Luke Frake made a superhero-landing on the stage of #gms24 with this powerful slide. ‘We’re all running our own race’ 🏃🏼 - Luke’s a runner. His goal is being healthy and feeling good. - Usain Bolt’s also a runner. His goal was being the fastest man alive. Both run, but should Luke then compare his performance with Usain Bolt? Nah. And that’s exactly the point! I see it all the time. 👇 - ‘What’s the benchmark?’ - ‘They are more innovative’ - ‘We should run 20 tests every day’ People and companies focusing too much on the wins and performance of others, not knowing about the nuances to the stories. The defeats and hard-earned success. Just seeing the result and promoted image. ✨ And this is a big thing in experimentation as well. Which is why I found Luke’s talk so important. In experimentation you often hear about how fast-paced and test-driven companies like Booking(dot)com, AirBNB and Spotify are. Running hundreds and thousands of tests. But they did not get to that point immediately. Testing to increase performance has been built into the DNA of these frontiers in experimentation. Sure you can get inspired, and you should. Can you use the progress of others as duel for you to catch up? Even better! But don’t feel a sense of defeat if you don’t get a thousand tests running year 1.
