You really should. Here’s my reasons: 1) So many top speakers from U.S. airline world, all in one day. Efficient for you and your team. 2) It is hosted by our friends at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), the most efficient and strategically located airport hub in the country, easy for you and your team to get in and out. 3) Unlike those boring interminable 3-4 day gazillion tracks with 5-6 people per panel airline events including one happening the week before, this won’t be boring. Fun for you and your team. 4) And I don’t have to remind you of the value of bringing your team together in a hybrid world, this would be a great one to build some face to face team time around. There you have it. That is why I will be there.

Lufthansa Airlines CEO Jens Ritter has been spotted donning the cabin crew uniform on a flight from Frankfurt to Riyadh and back. The move was part of a personal effort to experience firsthand the challenges of crew and hear directly from passengers. We live in an era of mega CEOs, where the head of a company earns hundreds of times what the average worker earns. This usually means the CEO is so far removed from frontline workers and customers. I would like to see more Asian business leaders adopt such a practice. While I was at Singtel there was a formal program where all headquarters staff, regardless of seniority, had to log several hours in the year in customer-facing situations, either on the phone, at retail shops or home visits. (You can even find videos of CEO Kuan Moon Yuen doing the rounds on YouTube.) For most of us, I have to admit it felt like a chore at the time. (It was a requirement of the annual performance evaluation.) But in hindsight, those customer meetings were always insightful because you not only heard directly from customers, you also got to work with other parts of the organization you don't usually see. Thinking and Growing Rich like Spirit Airlines 🛫 “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill contains a section about Herb Kelleher, the founder of Spirit Airlines. The excerpt talks about how, by sticking to his business’s core ideals, he was about to push his airline to be the best in its industry and thrive during the 2000s, even with airline companies’ widespread setbacks: The following are four critical points by Herb that contribute to his “successful-mindedness.” 1. Stick to your ideas. Despite the efforts of its giant competitors to keep Southwest from entering the business, a positive attitude kept them going during three years of court fights and no operating income. 2. Think of what the customers want and then give it to them. 3. Overcome obstacles put in your path by taking positive steps to break them down while the battle is being fought, and find ways to get around them. 4. Keep open to new opportunities; when they arise, take positive steps to meet them.

PLAY airlines held an “End of Summer Briefing” for investors today here in Reykjavik. The purpose of the meeting was to report how PLAY is doing these days and how we see the general outlook for our young airline. We see solid financial results with revenue in the summer months (June-August) nearly doubling from last year and the airline delivering a net profit of $12 million in the same period. That is a turnaround, from net loss to net profit, of around $15 million from last year. We foresee that we will again almost double our revenue in the third quarter and that our operational margin (EBIT) will be nearly ten times higher than last year, as well as PLAY delivering a quarterly net profit for the first time. The fact that we have managed to keep our costs low while increasing our unit revenue (RASK) and nearly doubling our capacity is a true testament of how well-established we are becoming in our key markets and gives us great confidence for the future. Our cash position remains solid and we do not intend to raise new equity in the current market environment. After a period of steep growth, we have now reached the required scale to run an efficient and profitable operation and can begin to focus on optimizing our operation. ✈️✈️ - 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗻. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱. I was flying home this weekend from my best friend’s wedding in North Carolina, 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘣𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘺, and I was impressed with what I experienced on 𝘿𝙚𝙡𝙩𝙖 𝘼𝙞𝙧𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨. As a business owner I am continually observing how others "do business." As I was prepping for an upcoming training called, 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘵 𝘣𝘺 𝘋𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯: 𝘋𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘖𝘶𝘳 𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘛𝘦𝘢𝘮 & 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘔𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘴, on my three hour and 40 minute flight from Atlanta to Phoenix, I overheard something really beautiful. The Delta flight attendant approached a passenger in front of me and said the following, "Thank you Mr. (can't remember his name) for being an elite status member with Delta Airlines. We not only appreciate your business, but know we are grateful for you and want you to know you are seen and you are appreciated." - 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝗮𝗮𝗮𝘁?!! Honestly, 𝘐 𝘧𝘦𝘭𝘵 𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘧𝘦𝘭𝘵 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 in that moment for simply hearing this interaction. 💙💙 I was not only impressed with what the flight attendant said, but I also appreciated that an organization as large as Delta Airlines, still ensures these small, intentional interactions take place in their BIG business. As you all know, I talk a lot on how small, yet intentional interactions make for big impact and how every interaction we have is an opportunity to build, maintain, or break down relationships and ultimately the culture of our organization. Thus, my closing question for you all, is what intentional action will you do today, tomorrow, this week to build the culture of your organization?
