🌈 Happy Disability Pride Month! 🌈 Did you know that transgender adults have higher rates of disabilities than cisgender adults, particularly functional limitations related to cognition (difficulty remembering, concentrating, or making decisions) and independent living (difficulty doing errands alone, such as visiting a doctor’s office)? 🧠🏠 This means that traditional Pride events can be challenging for many in our community. Crowded venues, loud environments, and physical barriers often limit participation and enjoyment. At FOLX Health, we embraced the power of virtual spaces this year by offering a Virtual Pride celebration! 🎉💻 Virtual environments are incredible for celebrating identities and learning new skills. Our members highlighted several benefits of virtual events: • Accessibility: Virtual events remove physical barriers, making it easier for everyone to participate. 🚪✨ • Comfort: For those with mobility or sensory considerations, virtual events provide a more comfortable experience. 🛋️ Virtual events allow individuals to join from their own safe and controlled environments, reducing stress and enhancing participation. 👂💬 As a person with unilateral hearing loss (UHL), I often get overwhelmed or exhausted being in noisy environments for long periods of time. Virtual Pride allows everyone, including those with disabilities, to join in the celebration without limitations. Personally, it means a lot to me as it provides a space where I can comfortably participate. This is just a step in the right direction, a start toward creating truly inclusive spaces. Let's keep working together to support and empower all members of our community. 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈🤝 #DisabilityPrideMonth #VirtualPride #Inclusivity #Accessibility #Pride2024 #DisabilityIsDiversity #DisabilityVisibility #DisabilityInclusion #WalkingTheWalk #UnlearnAbleism #DisabilityAwareness #DisabilityPride Citation: Smith-Johnson, M.
