This week's episode of NPR's Alt.Latino features some time in the studio with Edgar Barrera, an extremely talented composer/producer from McAllen, Texas whose Midas touch is all over Latin music right now. Listen in to get a glimpse of the DNA of making hit records that are also artistically and culturally important. (and yes, i said 'records'. I'm old school!)

Important insightful analysis.
On Saturday morning, 36 hours after the debate ended, a close friend wondered how so many members of the American media all got on the same page so quickly, determining that Biden should step aside. It's not a conspiracy, I told him. But there were hints in the coverage. Dozens of journalists and pundits mentioned that their phones were blowing up with influential Democrats freaking out. Certainly, those off-the-record communications influenced the press coverage. I don't think those are inappropriate, but I wish reporters would slow down and explain how political communication works.

I had the extreme honor of doing an appreciation for the legendary Tejano tv host Johnny Canales this evening on NPR. A true pioneer and cultural warrior.

One of the hardest parts of what we do on NPR's Alt.Latino is selecting music for our Best Of lists. Slimming down so many good releases to a list that others can take in without being overwhelmed is no small task. But at the same time, one of the best parts of this task is to put the spotlight on the stunning/jaw dropping multitude of ways Latino/a/x musicians express themselves. And it seems to get better every year, no lie! So here are our picks for Best Of 2024 (So Far). Thanks to the always fab Anamaria Artemisa Sayre and Isabella Gomez Sarmiento for constantly expanding my musical palette. Bonus: in the comments I will add my own Spotify list of the 20 albums that stood out to me. If we missed something, leave it in the comments so others can share!

It’s been wacky busy around here so I didn’t get a chance to post this interview I did with Residente back in April. He’s one of the musicians I have the privilege to have an on going series of conversations with over the years. Either on the podcast or in public. This is our latest catch up. https://lnkd.in/e8WiBFCC
