Tropical Storm Alberto was the first tropical storm of the 2024 season in Corpus Christi and my first tropical storm ever. I am so grateful to have been out reporting on it all throughout the storm, and doing my part in helping keep the community safe. We are in your neighborhood on the good days and the bad.⛈️💨🌊☔️ #TropicalStormAlberto

Port Aransas Police Department Chief of Police Scott Burroughs sounded his sirens and closed his patrol unit door for the last time on Friday June 28th. He is retiring after 41 years in law enforcement and 15 years serving as police chief in Port Aransas! Every time I interviewed Chief Burroughs (which was pretty regularly as I’m the Port Aransas neighborhood news reporter) he would joke with me at the end of the interview and say “where’s my Philly cheesesteak, Philly girl?” So on his last day ever in the office, I covered a story about how his retirement will be felt by the Port A community and how he is reflecting on his 15 years of service here. This Philly girl surprised him with his cheesesteak that he’s been asking for😂 While it’s not an authentic one from back home, he loved it anyway. Best of luck in North Texas and congratulations on your retirement!🚔🎊 The E.W. Scripps Company I’m so thankful that neighborhood news gives me the opportunity to connect with people in my beat. I had the chance to bring two special guests out with me in the field today: our KRIS 6 summer intern, Alejandra Becerra and The E.W. Scripps Company ‘s Chris Nagus! Chris visited our station back in October, one month after I started my first job as an MMJ here. He was there the day I did my first dayturn. I showed it to him and he gave me a ton of advice that I still use out in the field every day. He took me around town and showed me how to network and find stories in my beat. ⏩Fast forward 8 months to today, and in just a few hours he helped me strengthen my storytelling skills, MOS approaches, showed me how to spice up a Zoom interview, and did exercises to help with more natural standup delivery—just to name a few. I’m sorry you’re getting tropical stormed while you’re visiting, but I am so grateful to work for a company with such caring and hands-on leaders!🎥

This time of year is never easy for Fay Martin, even three years after her son’s death. I am thankful she let me share her story, to help educate others about the dangers of fentanyl. https://lnkd.in/gT5kqe5X
