Bravo to the wonderful humans from Coaching Outdoors Podcast for a brilliant #coachingoutdoorslive event. Special thanks to Lesley Roberts & Diana Tedoldi for the brilliant workshops. I would have attended all workshops if it had been possible. I’m sure all the others were ace too! And thank you to all the wonderful humans, flora, fauna and fungi I’ve had the joy of spending time with over the past 36 hours. I’m returning home full of love and inspiration. Thank you to everyone for creating such magical space.

I’m back at Henley Business School this week for the Coaching Outdoors Podcast live event and a supervision session with the wonderful Anna Brown. Reflective mode is on overdrive! Someone just asked me what I do for a living and I proudly replied with ‘I’m a coach’. I noticed this as It’s rare for me to be so succinct in an answer to that question and not qualify myself with some fluff and self deprecating humour. So, why such different language now? What does that tell me? 1) The lack of qualification and nonsense words is due to the fact I am so proud of the work I do. I don’t need to qualify or apologies for it. I know it’s a privilege to work with other human beings in the way I do. 2) The phrase I AM A COACH. Is also important. It’s shifted from, I’m becoming coach or I’m a previous CCO now working as an exec coach…. That language was my little darkside voice telling me I wasn’t a proper coach yet and I needed to qualify myself by telling people I was once a big cheese 🤣. Now I know I am a coach and a bloody good one at that! Its interesting what our our language tells us about our subconscious…. So, anyway that was a ramble… It’s good to be back here reflecting on where this journey began and how far I have come.

Hello! I am looking for a videographer for a day shoot here at Thorp Coaching HQ, East Sussex. We are 20 mins from East Grinstead Station or 25 mins from Haywards heath (both about 1h from London Bridge). Is there anyone in my network available on either the 19th, 21st, 27th or 28th August?

Admin isn’t my favourite thing. When getting prepped to have clients onsite the task of completing risk assessments filled me with dread. Having said that some of the obscure items on said risk assessment did make me chuckle, risk of nettle stings, risk of being attacked by wild by animals (cows, sheep, deer) and my personal favourite risk of hunger (it’s ok I always pack snacks!). Having completed the risk assessment I decided it was important to become a first aider as an extra safety mesuse for my clients. On Saturday I packed myself off to St John Ambulance in Redhill and did exactly that. Thank you SJA! I’m delighted to announce I am now a first aider!

I have recently been pushing myself to ask for some Google reviews. This is something for some reason I really struggled with asking for. I didn’t want to ‘inconvenience my clients’. Well what a nonsense I’ve realised that was. To my absolute delight in all cases my request has been answered with glee. I did a thing yesterday.... I GOT ON A TUBE I haven't traveled on the Underground since I had my 1st panic attack on a packed train in 2017. At the time I had just launched my 1st business and had been caring for my ill mum. I was super burnt out, my brain and body just decided enough was enough as I tried to battle my way into central London for meetings on no sleep, poor nutrition and mega cortisol levels. Since that day train and tube travel had always been an issue for me. I found ways to make the train manageable but the terror of the tube grew into a demon I couldn't slay. I would freeze at the top of the escalator to the station and not be able to bring myself to even get near the platform. Yesterday on the hottest day of the year so far I got the Jubilee Line from London Bridge to Canary Wharf and back again IN RUSH HOUR for a conference. I know this may seem trivial to many but for me its like competing a marathon. My previous trying to travel on the tube Burnout Brain Strategy was: Give myself a good talking to - 'suck it up' - 'what kind of exec is scared of a train' and words to that effect. Headphones up loud - trying to drown out the thoughts. Ignore the feeling of fire racing from my stomach to my throat. Headphones up louder - make it go away Just will myself to keep moving.... Surprise surprise this didn't work... My coaching informed strategy now is: Talk to myself nicely and compassionately allow myself plenty of travel time. Accept that this was once difficult and understand the reasons but remind myself I am safe. Get curious with the body sensations, breath into anything that feels comfortable Box Breathing to ground myself (Know I can visualise my back garden if I need a further reminder I am safe) This shit works..... and will work for anything and everything that brings fear and anxiety. Travel, investor presentations, public speaking the works.... Give it a try. Let me know how you get on. Here is the view from my event!
