Yesterday I had a short 1:1 session with best-selling author John Spencer Williams, to get his thoughts on my LinkedIn profile and posts. It was super helpful. And there were two key learnings. 💡As a strategist I have done plenty of brand-building, brand positioning, and brand purpose work. Yet doing it for myself is a million times harder. I am way too close. I write hundreds of versions of what I offer, and then the brain goes on some version of this journey: - Who am I? - Who should I actually be? And is this really what people want???  - F**k that, I should be myself. But who am I? And who cares who I am? - This is boring. This is classic coaching jargon, it is BS. - Scrap that.😩 It all ends with me cancelling everything I have done so far. Hence it is invaluable to have somebody who can help you simplify your thoughts and point out where your energy and passion really are. 💡Second learning: showing up on LinkedIn is very much like showing up in life. The more authentically you show up, without filters, the better. The more you tell your own story, the more engaging you are. But if you let your self-critic lead the way and try and show up flawlessly for fear of being judged – hiding who you truly are – you make it hard for people to connect with you. Basically, just be YOU. It is more than enough. ❤️ So, as if writing posts didn’t feel scary enough, now I have the added challenge to share more of myself and allow for more vulnerability. YOU need to have a mentor. Read this if you are planning to have one. Well, I totally agree when people tell Having a coach/mentor can help you with Make the process less confusing. Get advice before doing things. Helps in staying motivated Figuring out things faster. Keep you accountable. But what if you can't get one For whatever reason, it might be Then just do things and figure out a way for yourself Make plenty of mistakes, but make new ones every time. Trust me, there is no better coach than your failures. Are you a coach? When people read your bio, here's what they're thinking: __ Is this person qualified? __ Would this person be fun to work with? __ Was this person born to be a coach? What's their story? __ Any awards? __ Do they have a process? __ Is their approach different? Better? New? Proven? __ Would this person ‘get’ someone like me? __ Has this person ever struggled with what I’m dealing with? __ Is what they suggest too hard for me? __ How do I know they’re not an AI-generated fake? __ Does this person trigger my BS-meter? __ Should I buy their book and call it a day? LinkedIn will be moving your “About section” higher up on your profile page. (That's the word on the street). If you still have the same list of skills jam-packed with keywords from 2009, you may need to answer a few of these questions. People are wondering.

If you want to be known for something do this with EVERY post: Use the same key words. For example, Self development professionals 1. What are you always trying to tell your audience? ↳ Pull your sentence together and pick out the key words. · e.g. Having a strategy can fuel your self development. 2. Find different ways of using them ↳ Through actionable advice , case studies , inspiring personal stories · e.g. How to build a simple strategy for disciplined self development. · e.g. This is how my self development strategy got my client insane results in X. 3. Repeat It may feel repetitive when creating the content… But using step 2 will give your post variation Besides, you are NOT the only post we’ll see on our feeds everyday, so it won’t be tiring for us. Doing something is better than doing nothing During coaching calls we go over what was planned from the last call and what needed working on. The reply I get most often is ‘It’s not ready yet’ Now, there’s a few problems with this, you can sit and tweak and change and edit anything until the cows come home, that doesn’t mean it’s going to get any better. You can think about where to advertise or another class to put on or take off until your brain hurts but that still doesn’t mean it will be the right choice. You can write and rewrite copy or a lesson plan until your blue in the face but it won’t help anyone if you never use it. Doing something is better than doing nothing. If you….
