Is publication in a high-impact journal essential for a Nobel Prize? Dr. Martin Chalfie has the answer: 🔽 Do you agree? #Phd #academia #research
i was speaking to my mentor who is one of the biggest names in UK pharmacy research. They told me that some of their papers published in mediocre journals ended up influencing a lot of big policy decisions. Impact factor is one of many variables that determine the impact of a paper. Thanks for sharing Asad Naveed. p.s I am not aiming for a noble prize brother 😅
So, yes, Asad Naveed. It sounds like the impact factor mattered (discovery), but then publication quality was a major factor in bringing it home. I would say this also differs substantially across fields.
The impact of work is more worthy than the impact factor of journal, but unfortunately there aren't much ways to value it if it doesn't get the right access and place to be showcased. If someone is unable to pay the publication fee, the work is just brushed out no matter how worthy it is. Talent from the financially constrained setups suffers the most.
Nobel Prizes recognize groundbreaking work, which might not always appear in high-impact journals. It's the impact of the research itself that matters most.
I agree!
I totally agree
Makes sense!
Great perspective!
