🔄 🌟 #Recycling of Solid-State Batteries: Promising Approaches Published in "Nature Energy" 🔋 Amidst the energy transition and the increasing use of rechargeable #battery storage, solid-state batteries hold significant promise due to their potentially higher energy and power density, as well as enhanced safety compared to conventional lithium-ion batteries. However, addressing the rising demand for primary materials and potential material shortages necessitates tailored recycling processes for various types of solid-state batteries. 📃 A recent publication in the prestigious journal "Nature Energy" presents solutions for recycling different solid-state battery types. The paper focuses specifically on current recycling strategies for various solid-state batteries (SSBs). The focus is on promising solid electrolytes (SEs), including oxides, sulphides/thiophosphates/halides and polymers, as well as combinations of these (so-called hybrid solid electrolytes). The fundamental knowledge for these recycling strategies is being developed through ongoing research at the BLB - Battery LabFactory Braunschweig. Our research aims to tackle these challenges by developing environmentally friendly processes that are both effective and economically viable. Our chapter delves into the exciting world of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs), which are rapidly gaining prominence in environmental science applications. Due to their unique properties—such as size, surface effects, high absorption capacity, and excellent stability—MNPs have proven to be highly effective in the removal and degradation of organic dyes from wastewater. Their magnetic properties also allow for easy extraction from dye solutions, enabling repeated use and further enhancing their practical application in water quality management. 🔬 Key Highlights: - Innovative Synthesis: Environmentally friendly methods for synthesizing MNPs. - Effective Application: How MNPs efficiently degrade and remove dyes from wastewater. - Sustainability: The potential for MNPs to be reused, making them a sustainable solution for industrial applications. The Digital Waste Research Lab is now officially open at Montanuniversität Leoben Various STADLER components were provided for the experimental setup, which makes it possible to implement large-scale experiments for sensor-based sorting and analysis of waste. 🌍♻️ The University of Leoben will benefit from this infrastructure not only for waste technology experiments but also for teaching. This new infrastructure will enable students to gain a better understanding of waste sorting and processing technologies. 🔥 INFERNO - Recycling Industrial Waste Through the Application of Thermophotovoltaic and Thermoelectric: A Novel Hybrid Technology for Electricity Generation - had its Kick-off Meeting in an online form on June 4th, 2024. 🎆 Partners gathered to set up the three-year action plan for the project, and its main and specific objectives. 📑 NEW PUBLICATION | Andriy Yaroshchuk, from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, published an article on NANOPOROUS MEMBRANE PERFORMANCE. This study introduces a new method to understand how #nanoporous membranes work. By studying two membranes in salt solutions, they found out more about their properties and how they can be improved for separating #ions and converting #energy.
