When humanitarian action is data-driven, it strengthens resilience, optimizes available capacities and finances, and upholds the fundamental humanitarian principles of neutrality and impartiality. 🌍 Advancing Data Quality in Conflict Zones: A Virtual Approach 🚀 In the challenging landscape of conflict zones like Syria, traditional Data Quality Assessments (DQAs) are often impractical due to safety concerns and logistical constraints. As part of USAID Syria's non-presence country program, I recently led Virtual DQA assessments, a critical step in ensuring the integrity and reliability of data supporting stabilization and humanitarian efforts across the region. Virtual DQAs are indispensable in these hard-to-reach environments, where physical assessments are challenging. By leveraging digital technologies, we were able to remotely assess data quality, identifying strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement. These assessments are vital for ensuring that the data collected is of high quality and quantity, supporting effective programmatic decision-making. In these assessments, I utilized five key DQA metrics—validity, reliability, precision, timeliness, and integrity—to evaluate the quality of the data. #Performance_Indicator_Reference_Sheet (#PIRS) There is no doubt that among the most essential topics that must be considered during any humanitarian project are the indicators, because indicators serve as a tool for measuring the project’s progress against the objectives in an accurate and pre-determined manner, so that they become a kind of judgment on the success or failure of the project from the progress towards achieving the objectives of the activities aspect. However, the failure to carefully study the indicators and make them a strict law makes the project evaluation process ridiculous. An essential tool to control the setting of indicators must be agreed upon with the stakeholders at the beginning of the project. It must be among the signed agreements, and it cannot be changed after the project's start except with the relevant stakeholders' approval. CRADI March Recap 📆The month of March was truly exciting for all of us at Crest Research and Development Institute as we worked alongside organizations and communities to provide evidence to inform decision-making, build the capacity of others, in line with our practice areas of Research, Training, and Partnerships. Here's a quick look at some of our key activities: Data collection to provide evidence for informed decision-making: In March, CRADI conducted data collection for the IOM COMPASS Project across six states: Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Edo to generate evidence on the linkage between internal trafficking and labor migration. This data will be used to inform crucial programs and policies for vulnerable populations. Furthermore, CRADI organized a refresher training for her enumerators as part of the activities in a holistic evaluation of the project "The Resourcing Change Phase II," a project that strengthens Women's Rights Organizations (WROs) in Fragile and Conflict-Affected States (FCAS). CRADI staff engaged in data collection to assess the project across four fronts: program evaluation, outcome harvest, organizational capacity assessments, and value for money. The findings from this study will also provide women's rights organizations, Women for Women International along with her partners and donors, with evidence to make informed decisions. 📈Training and Building Local Expertise: In the past month, CRADI delivered a Capacity Strengthening Program for staff of the Plateau State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA). This program equipped staff with the knowledge and skills to develop and manage a robust Humanitarian Sector Database, improving disaster response and resource allocation. 📍Mapping of Organizations: In March, CRADI also supported the Promoting Local Response Capacity and Partnership (PLRCAP) initiative to map the organizations working in the Northwest states of Nigeria, including their program activities, access, capacity strengths, and challenges to both populate the Hubs database and provide recommendations for future capacity strengthening programs. These activities are just a glimpse of CRADI's ongoing work, and it show our commitment to providing data for development, building capacity, and advancing positive change.
