From June 12 to 14, 2024, OCHA's Centre for Humanitarian Data held its first-ever Humanitarian Data Forum in The Hague. This forum was an opportunity to discuss and reimagine the future of humanitarian data and the best ways to progress in strengthening humanitarian response. Congratulations on ten years of HDX! (Follow @humdata on X). It was also an opportunity to share Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM)'s recently launched application programming interface (API). This API provides access to academia, the humanitarian community, government, media, and non-governmental organisations to use the data collected by DTM. DTM’s API accelerates the secure sharing of internal displacement data, simplifies access, supports better assistance to people on the move, and helps create a stronger, data-driven UN. ➡ Access DTM’s API https://lnkd.in/gDU_YHUk United Nations OCHA, Complex Risk Analytics Fund (CRAF'd), Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET), Microsoft, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, ODI, USAID - Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance, Robert Trigwell #Data4Action

💡Understanding people and places affected by #InternalDisplacement is key to #DurableSolutions analysis and response. Our work aims to ensure that responses to internal displacement are truly inclusive, allowing for the active and informed participation of #IDPs and host communities in decision-making processes. In 2022, our focus was on enhancing engagement of displacement-affected communities within #data processes in the countries we support. 🇸🇩 While the renewed outbreak of conflict has drastically disrupted related efforts, the joint, large-scale data collection exercise we supported in #Sudan yielded valuable insights. Through meaningful engagement of local stakeholders and displaced communities, Locality Action Plans were created, translating data into humanitarian, development, and peace programming. 📝 By carefully dissecting the concept of #CommunityEngagement, our technical brief (https://lnkd.in/edQHE67Q) provides practical guidance for involving displacement-affected communities in the joint analysis process. It draws on lessons learnt from JIPS-supported exercises in #Greece, #Myanmar, #Sudan, #Syria, and #Ukraine. Dive into the details in our 2022 Annual Report: https://lnkd.in/eFtm-m2i

How can humanitarians ensure safe, ethical and effective management of personal and non-personal data? Accountability to Affected People (AAP) is a collective approach that ensures the needs and interests of people are at the center of humanitarian action. This United Nations OCHA Guidance Note explores data responsibility and AAP in humanitarian action. It identifies common data-related benefits and risks related to AAP, explains how humanitarians can implement actions from the IASC Operational Guidance on Data Responsibility in Humanitarian Action and offers examples of joint approaches to this work. https://lnkd.in/d3A8Bmrr

📣 On 6 June 2024, the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) launched its application programming interface (API) in collaboration with the Complex Risk Analytics Fund (CRAF'd), Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET), Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Microsoft, ODI, USAID - Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance and United Nations OCHA. DTM is the largest source of primary internal displacement data consolidated at the national and sub-national levels. Present in 100 countries – and monitoring internal displacement in 31 countries, DTM informs 81% of humanitarian response plans worldwide. ℹ️ DTM’s API: • Makes primary internal displacement data more accessible • Increases the usability of primary internal displacement data • Helps create a stronger data-driven UN • Strengthens experience sharing and system-to-system interaction in the humanitarian sector ➡️ Find out more https://lnkd.in/gDU_YHUk #Data4Action

In my opinion, the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) API is a game-changer for humanitarian efforts. This initiative by IOM and its partners significantly enhances the accessibility and usability of internal displacement data. By fostering a stronger, data-driven UN and encouraging greater collaboration, it marks a major step forward in humanitarian innovation. #Data4Action #HumanitarianInnovation #DataDriven #UN #IOM #HumanitarianResponse

📢 A reminder to join us on Tuesday, 19 March, from 1400 to 1500 CET for an HDX Dataset Deep Dive with IOM hosted by the OCHA Centre for Humanitarian Data. This webinar will showcase the work of Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) at the Global Data Institute, IOM - UN Migration. Teams from DTM gather and analyse data to disseminate on the mobility, needs and vulnerabilities of displaced and mobile populations worldwide. IOM provides DTM data as a shared resource to all actors in a humanitarian response and actors engaged in supporting populations on the move. The DTM team will explain how its data supports decision-makers and responders to provide them with better context-specific assistance. HDX Dataset Deep Dives are a series of webinars highlighting compelling and relevant datasets on the Humanitarian Data Exchange (HDX), an open platform for finding and sharing data across crises and organisations. 👉 Registration https://lnkd.in/gKUPn6va

📊 Multi-stakeholder, participatory #data processes can create unique opportunities to address the challenge of #InternalDisplacement In 2022, we broadened our efforts to facilitate uptake and use of the results from data processes we support to drive positive change in the lives of people affected by displacement. 🇵🇭 In the Philippines, an independent evaluation (https://lnkd.in/eUhHSgmE) of the profiling exercise we supported highlighted that the collaborative process at the provincial, national, and global level that underpinned the data exercise was critical for the positive uptake of the results. The process was coordinated by a Profiling Working Group that was led by UNHCR Philippines, the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) and the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG) of the BARMM region with technical support from JIPS. 🔎 Positive outcomes from the exercise for displaced communities include: data-informed policymaking, critical actions such as birth registration, a better understanding of IDP populations, strengthened collaboration, improved communication of protection needs, and more effective disaster responses.
