I remember preparing one of our quarterly meetings at emlen, staring at our pipeline metrics. I felt demoralized, scratching my head, wondering why our efforts weren't translating into the growth we anticipated. Our approach looked like (and your's probably too): 1. Researching ICP Accounts & Contacts 2. Assign SDRs a certain number of accounts & contacts 3. Define a set of 3-4 messages based on hypothesized problems of particular accounts & reference customers 4. SDRs enrolling contacts into their cadences (multi-channel, high frequency over 2 weeks) 5. Execute on a stable activity level 6. Iterate based on results Why it didn’t work? We were clinging to an outdated, funnel-based model that, frankly, missed the mark on understanding the modern buyer's journey. Our method was too linear, too simplistic, and it was clearly failing us. We were too obsessed with establishing something repeatable and predictable. But then, in one of our strategy sessions with @Marc Grewenig, we decided to throw the old playbook out the window. It was time for a change. Is our new approach repeatable? Maybe. Is our new approach predictable? Maybe. But it drives pipeline. NOW. This was a valuable lesson, and it has helped us significantly improve our pipeline generation. We now meet our customers where they are. Understanding their needs more deeply, and engage with them more effectively. We were SPOILED in the last 3 years. Now, this is the biggest problem in the home service industry… 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗿𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗽. Fast. People are going back to work, and they're not spending as much time as they were in their house. Even for us, it's been a bit more challenging to get leads. So I'm getting creative… For example, I never thought I'd go back to Angi or HomeAdvisor, but I talked to Craig Smith (Chief Revenue Officer of Angi) and I'm going to be working with them. Here are five lead gen ideas for you: 1. Turn your employees into marketers: get them to refer family and friends to you 2. Knock on doors! That's one of the things I did when A1 was a baby, and it still works 3. Run an LSA (but make sure you're Advanced Verified to reduce spam) 4. Create content that answers the most common questions your customers have 5. Turn your vehicle wrapper into an ad My upcoming print newsletter is also all about lead gen.
