Was invited by a Biden aide to join a White House staff video conversation with top officials from the Irish, Norwegian, and Spanish embassies in Washington. The aide asked me ahead of time if I'd like to speak. He said that he had informed the embassy officials that I would be present and might speak. He said that they were fine with it. I told the Biden aide that it would be fine if he called upon me. I started to speak. After a minute or two, the Irish diplomat said: "I do not wish to listen to this." Soon thereafter, the Norwegian embassy official said that "my time allotted for this meeting has run out." I did not speak much longer. The Spanish embassy official waited for me to finish, thanked me, and said: "It's healthy to hear different points of view."

North American speaking tour: It's not often that there's a full month between Labor Day and Rosh Hashanah, but this year there is, so I'm working on consolidating dates sometime between September 2 and October 2. It'll be an Elul conversation about the year that's been, and what's going on as we meet just before the Jewish holidays, just before Simchat Torah - one year later. Let's talk; let's share our thoughts. Please be in touch.

I appreciated the opportunity to write an article in the Friday Jerusalem Post. For those looking online, it arrived there early Saturday morning, but here's the link. https://lnkd.in/dKv5hW4P

My request of the White House to propose a UN Security Council resolution demanding the release of all the hostages in the spirit of Passover - the Festival of Freedom - has been dismissed. Their reaction: "We've already demanded the release of all the hostages. Singling out the hostages and Passover would surely lead to rejection of such a resolution." We had a longer discussion. I'm not sure if the Biden aide was joking or meant it seriously, but he added: "Post your proposal on social media and see if people vote in favor. If you get many responses, I'll mention it to my colleagues." He said that one possibility would be a US statement "in some shape or form" in support of such a sentiment. So please click a reaction. It won't work, I know, but it's worth speaking out in any way we can.

I've spent decades reporting on how politicians reach fateful diplomatic and security decisions. Political window dressing, certainly at times like these, can have dangerous and deadly ramifications if it gets out of control. My latest: https://lnkd.in/d9j4-xZ2

OK, so the issue has come up enough with enough people in enough places in enough conversations. I think I am ready for a North American speaking tour. There are some people with whom I've said that between the COVID cancelations and then the war, it seemed we'd never meet, or never see each other again. Thanks to those who did Zoom sessions with me when it was not possible for me to be there in person: from Australia to America. Anyway, the first ones to set their preferred timeframes will get priority as to when we do this. Looking forward to seeing old friends again, and meeting new ones.

1moI'm sure the analysis is correct, but the US meddling in internal Israeli politics, and micro-managing our war of survival, is just 'pasul'.
