一碗不小心吃了4代人的麵 🍜 這次回家的旅程蘊藏著滿滿的感動，不只是我們一家第一次出遊（14天！），也是我自己自律的其中一個環節。創業難，水稻有關的相關事業更是難上加難。不得不認，前幾個月的試煉的的確確的讓我感到疲憊。這也是為什麼我得逼自己放假，把一切通訊關閉，認真的陪伴家人，感受回鄉的喜悅。 雖然說非常盡力的不去想工作有關的事，但是到處都是米，每天都吃飯，而且還去了稻田，可見職業病還是非常嚴重。在伯朗大道我拍了一大堆照片。照片重點不在風景，而是稻田裡水利灌溉的設計，腦子裡想著： ”要是東南亞的稻農也有同樣的基礎建設那有多好。” 把主題拉回來，我們不談米飯，談談麵吧！旅程的重點之一就是帶老婆還有兩個孩子去吃我從小吃到大的麵。這也是一碗一眨眼，我們就吃了4代人的麵，從我外婆那個年代開始到現在。我吃的不是麵，吃的是回憶還有那份圓滿。吃完麵，當晚因為地震睡不著覺，於是不知不覺開始對那碗麵進行了反思。 這碗麵以及它的歷史讓我想起作為一名創業家，投資者常常問我的一個問題： ”What is the exit plan/strategy”。 對於這個問題我總是沒有辦法好好應對。時間這個老師一點一滴的幫我磨出了一個還過得去，大家都能接受的答案。我只能說，創業的目的有兩個觀點，一個是從創業家角度，另一個則考量投資者的營利。這裡我想談的不是如何讓公司的估值翻倍，上市，合併與收購，我想談的是創業家的初衷。 既然我們家吃了4代人，可想而知，這碗麵也養了4代人。從一開始在巷子裡的違章建築到今天與盈利不成正比的簡單小店，那些講話像在吵架的外省婆婆媽媽如今她們的後代都因為這碗麵而累積了足夠的資源，大部分已經移民，並且有了他們自己的事業。店裡現在聽到的是台灣話。原來的外省大嫂那天戴著一串珍珠項鍊，習慣性的到店裡看看。當一群新的婆婆媽媽在店裡做泡菜的時候，她總是要嘗一塊，確保品質，還有那半個世紀的味道。我沒有機會問她有沒有exit strategy，可能就是那個年代的思維，所做的一切都是為了生存，為了後代。在延續與品質之間，她們會毫不猶豫的選擇品質。再好的東西，如果沒有傳承的把握，寧願帶進棺材。我們不討論這種觀念對不對，只能說這是一種固執的浪漫。 從2008年到現在，16年的光陰給了水稻。不能說我懂很多，只能說我知道我不懂的更多。然而，這種由知識轉化成潛意識的過程竟然出乎意料的讓我十分欣慰。同時我也能告訴自己這些年的經歷並沒有白費。我很感謝支持，投資AgriG8的投資者。我也漸漸體會到我的強項不是經驗而是韌性，所以在經營AgriG8的時候，我不能任性。一碗半世紀不變的麵固然好，但是如何在不同的時候，以不同的原料做出一樣的味道是份挑戰。同樣的概念用在水稻上，因為氣候，人文，政治等等因素，如何在下個世紀我們還能像今天一樣吃上口好米就得仰賴大家這個世紀的推陳出新。 最後，旅程的另一個重點是尋根。我第一次踏足家族祠堂，看到門柱上對聯讓我一愣： “記憶勿忘創業艱難” 就像是祖先留下來的警語一樣，除了提醒自己，也送給同樣站在前線的創業家。我很少發文，用華文因為我覺得用英文沒有辦法妥善的表達這次旅程對我的衝擊。LinkedIn的翻譯如何我也管不了了，與其花時間翻譯，還是好好的準備接下來幾個月的項目吧 😌

I took a break with my family and made a commitment to go offline. I am happy to share that I honored that commitment. To the 800+ messages on my phone, I will get to everyone this week. For those who emailed, you would have gotten a nice, automatic 'fallow period' message from me :) OF COURSE I went to rice fields, it is like an occupational hazard by now. Rejuvenated and refreshed, beyond catching up with work this week, I am motivated to share some of my reflections from this trip. #digitaldetox #offline

This was how we spent our last week of December in 2023, putting up the proposal for the Lab. AgriG8 put ourselves out there with the hope of gathering feedback to the Rice Resilience Bond. Tharani Prakash thank you for the push, wouldn't have done it without you. We didn't win the finals, but heading to the finals out of so many great proposals is still surreal. Congratulations to Forest Carbon! I don't have a very sophisticated way of saying this...but the team has consistently asked this question: "Are we crazy?" I think we are, but we are certainly not delusional. Also, we have a pretty high pain threshold. Moving on :)
