Contrary to popular fears, “the grid is not going to collapse” because of electric cars, says Britt Reichborn-Kjennerud, our Director of E-mobility. “The bigger concern is that if we don’t plan differently for this very fast-increasing load, the grid won’t be ready in time to support the transition.” Utilities, carmakers, and energy thought leaders are actually starting to look at EVs differently because of their untapped energy storage potential.
With the growing number of EVs in NYC, we are evolving our planning processes to prepare the grid for the projected rapid growth in EV loads on our system. This is so we can be ready ahead of time to support our customer's EV charger installations, and to electrify their fleets.
