This #GlobalWindDay, we want to focus on the major investments we are making to bring offshore wind to NYC, and bring clean energy to millions of homes and businesses. One of these is our Brooklyn Clean Energy Hub project. This hub will have the potential to bring 1,500 MW of renewable wind energy into our grid. That's one step closer to 100% clean energy by 2040. Contrary to popular fears, “the grid is not going to collapse” because of electric cars, says Britt Reichborn-Kjennerud, our Director of E-mobility. “The bigger concern is that if we don’t plan differently for this very fast-increasing load, the grid won’t be ready in time to support the transition.” Utilities, carmakers, and energy thought leaders are actually starting to look at EVs differently because of their untapped energy storage potential. With the growing number of EVs in NYC, we are evolving our planning processes to prepare the grid for the projected rapid growth in EV loads on our system.
