Exciting news! 🎉 The United Nations General Assembly has announced that June 11th is the first ever International Day of Play! This day recognises the importance of play in promoting education, development, and the well being of children around the world. In fact, play is a fundamental human right, according to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. It builds resilience, instils confidence and helps children develop. At Compassion UK, our projects around the world offer safe spaces for children to play and reach their full potential. We're showing our support alongside global organisations and companies, to raise awareness about the significance of play. Today marks the first-ever International Day of Play! Declared in March 2024, the day acknowledges and celebrates the need to respect, protect and fulfill every child’s right to play. "Global research shows that 78% of children say adults do not always think playing is important, and 73% of children don’t believe adults take play seriously. Poverty, conflict, displacement, and discrimination further limit children’s ability to play. But play is one of the most effective ways children learn, cope with stress, and build skills to meet life’s challenges." Celebrating today (and everyday) in Movimento Bloom the Power of Play #internationaldayofplay ⚠️Play is undervalued and trivialised. Our education systems were designed in ways now understood to go against the grain of how children develop. Research shows play that is child-centred learning inspires learning, and children’s motivation- to-learn, much more effectively than teacher-centred instructional learning. ⚠️Opportunities for play are being squeezed out of childhood. Research shows children are enjoying much less child-led, free play outdoors then their parents did as children.Children today are 62% less likely to play out than baby boomer grandparents. ⚠️Our education systems were designed in ways now understood to go against the grain of how children develop. 📣 "Recognizing the importance of play for children’s development, The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child sets out “the right of the child to rest and leisure, to engage in play and recreational activities”. In March 2024, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution establishing 11 June as the International Day of Play to champion and protect this right." 📣 📣 📣 📣 📣 📣 📣 📣 📣 📣 https://lnkd.in/evneHXe2. 📣 📣 📣 📣 📣 📣 📣 📣 📣 📣 Yesterday, June 11, 2024, was the first time the International Day of Play was celebrated, but I would like to remind you how gamification dynamics transcend not only ages but also sectors and interests. As a teacher and trainer of other teachers from my role in innovation for higher education, I have observed how serious games and simulators used in learning dynamics reveal cognitive processes such as Piaget's accommodation, Kolb's experiential learning, social learning (vicariate) of Behaviorist roots (Pavlov, Skinner) presented by Bandura or even the same reciprocal triadic causality of Bandura himself. In other words, understanding how we learn makes it possible to situate more precisely the benefits of gamification for teaching, dissemination, training or co-construction of knowledge. Here, the question is, if the game as a pedagogical method should be relegated - by more conservative views - to the space of pleasure... or: observing its cognitive potential, it can be a strategic and powerful tool. 🎮 🎮 🎮 Celebrating with the dream team: let's play Luis Antonio Vaca Hinojosa, JAIME G. THIS IS LAST HOPE FOR GAZA In the name of humanity to whosoever this post reaches should sent this post to P.M. and President of his country and also to news papers and TV's. After thorough analysis I realised that there are two basic and fundamental structural defects in the constitution of UN which are 1. Veto Power System for the permanent members of the security council of UN. Since there is a body of all stakeholders in the form of General Assembly wherein all member- countries of the UN are represented there is absolutely no need of Security Council to accept or reject the resolutions passed by General Assembly. As such Security Council should be dissolved forthwith. 2. All member countries of UN are not signatory to the Rome statute consequently some countries are not under the International Criminal Court (ICC) whereas all the member countries have to be under the jurisdiction of ICC so that peace prevails in the world. . Due to these defects America has made a mockery of the UN as it is reduced to a puppet in the hands of the America. Consequently America with some allies have invaded several Muslim countries like Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya and looted these countries then leaving these countries after the loot is complete. Presently America with the help of Israel (both countries are not under the jurisdiction of ICC) is demolishing, cold blooded mass murders, devastation, destruction , displacement, ethenic cleansing, murder especially of children and women and genocide and the whole world including the UN have to be mute spectators of all this and nobody has the powers to question them because of these defects in the constitution of UN. More than seven decades have passed by but the above-mentioned defects in the constitution of UN were not rectified. Non-rectification of these defects has created a very grave situation as instead of peace maintaining organisation UN became a weapon of blackmailing and means of invading and looting the rich countries by some countries which were having the veto power also besides these countries were not signatory to the Rome statute consequently these countries were not under the jurisdiction of ICC. As the result these countries became law per se and virtually became terrorist countries of the world because they were not answerable to any forum for whatever they do. They invaded and looted several countries so much so they created terrorist groups also. Now the climax of lawlessness has reached in Palestine where total devastation, destruction, cold blooded mass murders, genocide, ethenic cleansing, kidnapping and rape of innocent and unarmed civilians is being done and the whole world including UN have to be mute spectators because of the basic and fundamental defects in the constitution of UN have not been rectified. This is the highest time these defects are rectified by the General Assembly. Let General Assembly wake up after decades of slumber and rectify the defects as proposed above..

‘Young at heart: Becoming a nation with children at its centre in 10 courageous steps’ - The RSA (The royal society for arts, manufactures and commerce) Just imagine . . . the government comes together to declare that for too long children have been ignored, and that they have the courage to become child-centred nation. From idea to action . . . If a country made this declaration, what would be the practical next steps? Here are 10 key considerations to guide leaders towards becoming a child-centred nation. 1. Listening to children 2. Protecting the right to play 3. Sparking and developing creativity in children 4. Ensuring safety 5. Equipping children as peacemakers 6. Bringing hope and skills for climate adaptation 7. Designing with children instead of for children 8. Learning languages, place and local understanding 9. Putting value on the public good of good parenting 10. Considering international relations and foreign policy Here are some questions to sharpen government’s performance and move towards becoming a child-centred nation: Minister for Children: Who in my government is responsible for children? Who is listening to them, designing with them, and taking steps to improve the lives of children in my country? Foundations: Have we considered safety and access to essential resources? Are we building the attitudes, institutions and structures for a peaceful society? Long-term view: Are child-lens investment approaches being used? Are we considering the countries children will inherit? Valuing social good: Are children seen as agents that simply reduce the working capacity of their parents and thus tax revenues? Do we recognise the value to our country of raising children? Learning: Are changes required to our educational systems and curriculum? Have we listened to children and not designed play out of our school systems? “A child-centred nation is one with play at the centre of all primary education.” 🏫🚸🌿🍁🍂🪵 🚲 🛴 🛹🛼 🛝 🏃🏼♂️🏃🏼♀️🏃🏾👩🦽🚴🏿🚏🚶🏻🤸🏾♂️🤸🏼♂️🌳🏘️ #PlaySufficiency #FreePlay #Play #PhysicalLiteracy #PhysicalActivity #ActiveTravel #PlayStreet #SchoolStreets #StreetPlay #HomeZones #Playces #FreerangeUrbanNeighbourhoods #FUN #KnowBallGames #Parks #Playgrounds #UNCRC #Article31 #Splace

INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR PLAY Play opens up a whole world of possibilities. That’s why agencies got together and successfully called on the United Nations General Assembly to adopt an annual International Day of Play, on the 11th of June. We did this because we believe every child can reach their full potential, with the time, space and access to play. It’s time to put play back on the agenda. On this day, and every day. PLAY IS NEVER JUST PLAY Play is a fundamental right; it builds resilience, instils confidence and helps children develop. But children need time to play. That’s where we need policies, training and funding to get play integrated into education and community settings. Play heals through learning, life skills and psychosocial well-being. That’s why there must be investment into diverse, inclusive and safe play spaces, extending access to all, especially the most vulnerable and marginalised children. There are so many reasons we should all be celebrating the power of play. #InternationalDayOfPlay #ToyLibraries #EarlyEd #EarlyChildhood #Play #Children #Heals #Learning

At Learn to Grow we focus on a whole of community approach to foster an environment that is safer and more conducive for a childhood in which children not only survive but thrive. Actions to encourage parental involvement and thus community involvement and better educational resources give expression to Madiba’s words that children are the ‘rock on which our future will be built, our greatest asset as a nation. They will be the leaders of our country, the creators of our national wealth who care for and protect our people’. As we move forward, we must give children every opportunity to do just that. https://learntogrow.org.za

I am a passionate believer in play - for children, for youth, - for all of us. I would argue that during childhood and adolescent play is probably needed more than ever before, - both to give children a break, but also to ensure that we give them the opportunity to make the world around them meaningful through play. We see an unpresedented mental health crisis among children and adolescent, which we need to act on. Thus, I believe it is on us - the adults to start listening, to better understand - and to change our ways, so we can meet children and adolescents where, how, and when the need us. Are you ready to become a fierce human rights defender of children's rights? - Reach out to hear more, how The Child and Youth Friendly Governance Project can help children and young people have an active voice in your decision-making processes. Personally, I do not think we can afford not to do this!
At this week's Roundtable Discussion on the Power of Play, children and young people from three different continents presented their Call to Action with concrete recommendations to governments, the UN, civil society organisations, schools, caregivers, and corporations on how they can advance children’s right to play. The Call to Action, which has been informed by local focus group discussions and online consultations with over 10,000 children and young people worldwide, emphasises the importance of play to children's well-being and development. Children and young people stress that play is a right for all children and emphasise the importance of developing play solutions in collaboration with children themselves, particularly those with special needs. Stay tuned as we post recommendations from the Call to Action over the coming weeks! The global consultations with the children and young people have been supported by the Child and Youth Friendly Governance Project in collaboration with BRAC, The Concerned for Working Children, Eurochild, Save the Children International, the Government of Sierra Leone, International Play Association (IPA World), and Play in Education, Development, and Learning (PEDAL) at the University of Cambridge. The strictest safeguarding standards have been applied throughout the process. #PowerofPlay #ChildRights #ChildandYouthFriendlyGovernance
