Reading Colin Whittington's book, 𝐁𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐞, and learning about his journey from law enforcement to the corporate sector brought back a flood of memories for me. https://lnkd.in/gaqGnwuk I vividly remember my last day as a Detective for the Redmond Police, WA Department, on Saturday, December 16, 2000, at 5:30 p.m. As I closed out my last case investigations, I was already preparing for my new employee orientation at Microsoft two days later - Monday, December 18, 2000, at 8:30 a.m. The transition from COP TO CORPORATE happened in the blink of an eye. One moment, I was writing search warrants and arresting bad guys; the next, I was navigating the vast corridors of a major corporation. While it felt strange knowing I would never again wear a police uniform, gun, or badge, I was ready for life after law enforcement. Even in my mid-police career, I was committed, had a clear plan, and viewed the future as exceptionally bright. I was confident in my ability to shape my own destiny. For those in blue considering leaving law enforcement, especially at mid-career, ensure you have a strong support system, build a robust network, and always look through the windshield, not the rearview mirror.
