This month, Children’s of Alabama and more than 50 other corporations across Birmingham competed in the 2024 Birmingham Corporate Challenge presented by Hibbett City Gear. We are so grateful to have been this year’s philanthropic partner! The funds raised will directly support our mission; providing the finest pediatric health services to all children in an environment that fosters excellence in research and medical education. Johnson Controls, the global leader in smart, healthy and sustainable buildings, honored Children’s of Alabama as an OpenBlue Pioneer. The award is presented to businesses advancing a more sustainable, safe and healthy world supported by Johnson Controls technology and expertise. 🌱 In 2008, Children’s signed a 25-year contract with Johnson Controls to build, design, operate and maintain its new central utility plant. The plant includes hundreds of computer-controlled monitors and advanced controls that provide real-time responses to changes in weather, humidity and hospital needs. It also recycles water and steam to improve the overall system's efficiency. These advancements have resulted in significant energy savings, rapid cost reduction, enhanced fault detection and uninterrupted utilities for the hospital.

Congratulations to Sara Bugg, PICU, who was awarded a DAISY! Her nomination read, in part, “My son was admitted with sepsis and an unknown infection at the time… I was scared for my son and to be going through this alone since our family lives two hours away… when I got to the room, Sara was our nurse. She continued reassuring me that I wasn’t alone and that they would help us through this… She helped keep my son off the ventilator and keep him alive through the night… I know we would be in a worse spot without her.”
