The global COVID-19 pandemic thrust healthcare into a virtual space -FAST. What seemed like a distant possibility to be explored became the norm, and virtual care became an important patient care option. Once the dust settled a bit, I had the unique opportunity to contribute to this project and help develop a pediatric virtual care evaluation framework along with my amazing colleagues at CHEO . This conference examines the current state of pediatric palliative care knowledge. Across the nation, pediatric practices and health systems are investing in efforts to create better and more equitable health outcomes for pediatric patients. However, meaningfully engaging patients and their families can be difficult for pediatric practices due to a lack of time and resources for both pediatric care teams and patients. Bias within the medical system can also lead patients and families to distrust pediatric practices — particularly families of color. This tool aims to support pediatric practices, health systems, and CBOs by outlining practical considerations to help stakeholders foster more authentic engagement with patients and their families.
