User testing and UX research are essential to our design process. They provide insights into user behavior, reveal user needs and pain points, and test the validity of designers' assumptions in real-world scenarios. This process, when embedded into the product development life cycle, can significantly increase the likelihood of a product's success. Using early prototypes of the ROAM design (an obstacle-detecting device for the visually impaired), we worked with Goodwill Finger Lakes and D3 Engineering to refine the object detection distances, vibration feedback, and add useful features to the case design. Earlier this week, we hosted our fifth annual Regional Showcase, a "mini tradeshow" / matchmaking event where a number of local service providers we've come to know and trust share their capabilities with our startup teams. The day kicks off with brief presentations, but the majority of time is spent in 1:1 conversations. We made it over to RIT over this past weekend to see the work of our awesome interns, both past and present, whose Capstone projects were exhibited during Imagine RIT. Rachel Tetro impressed onlookers with the breadth of her design work in her Health Sensor project, from lifelike renders and interactive prototype, to a full UI/UX design. Christine Cataldo-Smith wowed us with her and her team's Animatronic Deer Chair, an ambitious and multidisciplinary project that attempted many firsts including the use of spherical gears and mimicking the gait of a deer. Past intern Sydney Neff delighted her audience with an Interactive Dining Experience designed to inspire both communication and connection. Congratulations to these incredible professionals!
