Do not choose a gift box and make a gift for the planet.” #micdrop #walkingthetalk #packagingwaste So then, a few more additions to the luxury packaging wishlist for Santa: • a mirror - so that category heavyweights can take a hard look at themselves and acknowledge how traditions need to evolve to facilitate waste reduction • a shredder - to tear up the regulatory constraints that stand in the way of localized bottling which would facilitate global distribution in bulk • a new pair of specs that are transparent and in focus to replace the blinders - for packaging material manufacturers to clearly see the business opportunities in the transition to reusable systems (hello ecoSPIRITS) • a stage - for the product to really shine in the spotlight, and for the packaging to step off • a pit-stop - to slow down and drop the carbon tunnel vision because we're also churning through a ton of water, dumping toxic waste and releasing heavy metal particulates as part of the packaging production process; and that's not even mentioning the effects of the global micro plastic pollution on human health https://lnkd.in/enFacktd • a piggy bank - for any and all interested parties to pool their resources and truly innovate the packaging solutions for a planet that remains habitable for humans, together Wait, couldn't Santa's elves just show us this Christmas how it's done? https://lnkd.in/eUG8CFjE

There are many ways companies and individuals can reduce their environmental impact through packaging. It's not just about doing the obvious packaging reductions, you need to think laterally as well. By relaxing it's glass QC colour tolerance's this luxury Champagne producer will have saved lots of CO2 emissions + cost and lead-times. If a luxury brand can make such a change why not mid-market as well? I know my friend Dan Jordan (https://lnkd.in/eBuWYJzm) constantly has a bee in his bonnet about brands and retailers not being able to relax the colour tolerance for plastic recyclate leading to lots of plastic scrap material being uneconomic to recycle. Why not make a virtue of your plastic bottles etc being in a variety of shades of grey? The label and branding can still be the same.
