This month Reid’s Palace hosted its fifth edition of the Art of Flavours festival. Esteemed Chefs from around the world gathered for the event and we were honoured that Executive Head Chef Luke Selby and Head Chef Theo Selby from Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons, A Belmond Hotel, Creative Executive Chef José Diogo Costa at William Restaurant Reid's Palace, A Belmond Hotel, and Pablo armando Aranda Moreno from El Olivo at La Residencia, A Belmond Hotel, were able to attend. The Chefs joined together to create an exquisite 7-course tasting menu where innovative delicacies from rising star chefs took centre stage. We are proud to be a long-standing Gold global partner of IGLTA, the world’s leading network of LGBTQIA+ welcoming tourism business. Taking our commitment forward, in 2015, Belmond founded the industry’s first LGBTQIA+ Advisory Board, gathering a group of visionary leaders to offer guidance and support on LGBTQIA+ both in the workplace and across our business practices. The Advisory Board has since gone from strength to strength. Currently led by Parker Smith, Account Director of LGBTQIA+ and Entertainment and Daniel Pasquali, VP of Sales, the LGBTQIA+ Advisory Board now consists of members Kelli Carpenter, John Clifford, Pierre-Alexandre Francin, Clark Massad, Carlos Melia, Jove Meyer, Marcelo M., Lexie Shaibu-Lenoir, Craig Smith and Melissa Tilling. A brainchild of our LGBTQIA+ Advisory Board, the first Travel with Pride journey was born in 2021 as a special charter in partnership with Attitude Magazine onboard the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. Since this inaugural journey, three more Travel with Pride Journeys were initiated with the objective to nurture a safe environment for LGBTQIA+ members and their allies to celebrate the diverse world we live in. At Maroma, A Belmond Hotel, employees are the heartbeat of our resort. By implementing Parley for the Oceans global education programmes we are creating an “Ocean Guardians” initiative, ensuring a culture of environmental appreciation among hotel staff to foster a deep understanding of, and passion for, the oceans that can be passed onto guests. Launching at Maroma, A Belmond Hotel, the collaboration includes locally tailored sustainability initiatives, ocean education to inspire a network of Ocean Guardians, and scientific research projects that harness community conservation to support native biodiversity - such as coral mapping the Mayan Reef in the Riviera Maya to help protect these vital marine ecosystems. The oceans cover more than 70% of the planet, harbour 99.9% of the biosphere, control the climate and weather, and produce more than half the oxygen in the air we breathe.
