HOKA trying something different with their TikTok strategy to launch a new all gender lifestyle shoe is a vibe. I’ve always considered HOKA a running sneaker and all marketing I’ve seen has been with runners. To launch the lifestyle shoe they tapped Manny Omitto, a very cool creative stylist and model, to make content for the launch. I love seeing brands trying new things and exploring their brand identity on TikTok. It feels like HOKA is actively committed to stepping outside their comfort zone in an authentic way. Plus-Size Fashion at New York Fashion Week Spring 2024: Summary: Despite some progress in recent years, the fashion industry still struggles with size inclusivity on the runway and behind the scenes. Plus-size models account for only 5 percent of NYFW castings, and discrimination against larger bodies is not uncommon. However, there is a growing demand for size diversity, and more designers are recognizing the importance of representing different body types. As we enter New York Fashion Week, I feel a buzz in the air - but times, they are a changing (extra points if you know this reference) and the biggest fashion event in New York might not be New York Fashion Week itself. In a recent Instagram post by @databutmakeitfashion (if that’s not the best Instagram handle, I don’t know what is), graphs showed press coverage for NYFW being overshadowed by the US Open Tennis tournamen. Add to that a 67% decrease in the number of designers showing at New York Fashion Week since 2011 and I think we can see an evolution of the fashion status quo. It’s worth considering how New York Fashion Week will adapt and redefine its role in the fashion world. Some of the things I’ve noticed this month. 💎I’ve had invites to upcycle, vintage, and other more sustainable apparel shows. Most recently a vintage runway aptly named “Walk Your Values” from the remake.world community. 🌎 Following fashion week are climate week and tech week, bringing a more holistic approach, at least in the mind of this sustainable fashion tech entrepreneur 💃. 🎾Sports are now influencing a wider range of followers. We no longer wait for the Olympics or follow Nike for influencers, but look at sports with a fashion lens as well. Hope this added a unique view as you look at some of the fashion this week!
