This is to announce that applications for the inaugural cohort of the FastTrack Innovation Scale Fund (FIS-Fund) Accelerator has CLOSED! This call was open to all youth-led Non-Governmental organizations (NGOs) with a focus on foundational literacy and numeracy education. The FIS-Fund Accelerator is designed to revolutionize foundational learning in Nigeria and Africa, particularly for low-income, out-of-school children and refugee migrants. We are happy to announce that we received over 100 applications from individuals and organizations passionate about driving systemic change in the foundational learning ecosystem, one that ultimately helps to unlock the full potential of every child. The submissions were inclusive and span organizations who already drive active engagements in the North West, North East and North Central States of Nigeria; specifically across the 10 states in focus namely: FCT, Adamawa, Benue, Borno, Jigawa, Kano, Nasarawa, Niger, Yobe and Zamfara). We excited to dig into these applications narrowing down them to successful applicants for the cohort this year. #AREAi #AREAi4Africa #LearningWithoutBarriers #FoundationalLearning #FoundationalSkills #FastTrackInnovationScaleFund #opportunities #partnership #Literacy #Numeracy #EducationForAll #ImpactForChange #EducationChampions #EducationForAfrica #EducationInIDPs

Have you thought about the state of Literacy in Africa? The state of literacy in Africa varies across different countries and regions. While improvements have been made over the years, there are still significant challenges that need to be addressed. According to UNESCO, the literacy rate in Africa stands at about 67%. However, it is important to note that this figure varies widely from country to country. Some countries, such as Equatorial Guinea and South Africa, have literacy rates above 90%, while others have rates below 50%. One of the major challenges to literacy in Africa is limited access to quality education, particularly in rural areas where schools and resources are scarce. Additionally, poverty, conflict, and cultural factors can also impede educational opportunities and contribute to high illiteracy rates. Efforts are being made by various organizations, governments, and NGOs to improve literacy rates in Africa. These initiatives aim to enhance access to education, train teachers, develop literacy programs, and provide resources in local languages. Technology, such as mobile phones and online platforms, is also being leveraged to expand access to learning materials. It is important to continue supporting these efforts and invest in education to improve literacy rates in Africa. Literacy is a crucial foundation for social and economic development, empowering individuals to participate fully in society and access better opportunities for themselves and their communities. #unicef #UnicefUganda #unesco #globaleducation #GlobalFundforEducation #TeachforUganda #PALNetwork #InstilEducation #literacy #researchanddevelopment #savethechildren #internationalLiteracyDay2023

Empowering Zimbabwe's Young Women and Men: Building Economic Resilience Today and tomorrow Aflatoun International is visiting Zimbabwe to meet local Aflatoun partners and other key stakeholders. Thirteen Aflatoun network partners have formed a powerful consortium to effectively coordinate and implement social, financial & entrepreneurship education activities across the country. It is a very impressive group of organizations prioritizing the most vulnerable girls and boys. During the meeting findings from a three-year research programme - 'Economic Empowerment of Adolescent Girls' project. Generously supported by the Sint Antonius Stichting Projecten and Reach Out To Asia/Education Above All Foundation, this program has yielded remarkable results. A new quasi-experimental study revealed that participants in the Aflateen programs exhibit remarkable resilience in the face of adversity and demonstrate a proactive approach to overcoming challenges. Moreover, the study highlighted that 'Aflateen children' are not only more inclined to save regularly but also save larger amounts compared to their peers outside the program. Furthermore, they show a heightened understanding of entrepreneurship principles and a greater propensity to engage in entrepreneurial ventures. Great discussions on the implications of the study and exchange on how different stakeholders can contribute to scaling-up life skills & financial education in Zimbabwe. #SDG4 #SDG5 #SDG8 #LifeSkills #FinancialEducation #EntrepreneurshipEducation Junior Achievement Zimbabwe Miriam Mutevere Panashe Christabell Banda Faith Foundation

Basic operations like addition, multiplication, subtraction, and division form the foundation for development and learning for all young children, especially those in nursery and primary school. Knowledge in these areas supports their growth, literacy, and numeracy (number recognition) abilities for future educational pursuits. Sadly, a learning crisis still exists in Nigeria, especially in the significant parts of Northern Nigeria, where our FastTrack program is in full swing. At AREAi, we strive to solve the learning crisis of foundational skills that still exist. This is why we remain committed to empowering children from disadvantaged rural communities and internally displaced people (IDP) camps with foundational skills required for lifelong learning, bridging the educational gaps in these communities. #AREAi #AREAi4Africa #EducationChampions #FastTrack #DevelopmentPractitioners #LearningWithoutBarriers #ChangeAgents #FoundationalLearning #Literacy #Numeracy Cc: Gideon Seun Olanrewaju Opeolu Adeyemi Omoniyi Lawson UNESCO UNDP UNICEF USAID Jacobs Foundation World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) iF DESIGN UK in Nigeria Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Elizabeth Temiloluwa Abikoye Jibola Ojediran
